Hi all, yes a good work bench is the hart of your workshop (man-cave).
You need to set the bench height at your height. Slightly low is acceptable but too high just does not work.
Think about what you will be using it for, working on stuff which has some height already so you really do want it a bit low.
Your vice (top of) if your fitting one should be no higher then your elbow. 800 to 900 normally.
Cheers

Yes a very important thing if you are at the bench most days.
I have found at waist & wrist height the best.
This 15m section of bench I have in the workshop is 955mm & perfect for me.
The old smash it out bench is only 820mm, it is manageable, but too much bending & squatting to get down to things to see.
The mobile red trolleys are about 670-730mm & way too low for me.
I'm over 6ft.
The drop saw table is 740mm too low, so cutting surface ends up at 840mm, still a bit low, but I can deal with it as I'm only a chippy a few days a year.
As a mate of a few cabinet makers, if my memory serves me correct standard kitchen bench is 900mm, so that is the all round good height, but some are lower & I prefer higher.
So 950mm is the best IMO.
With back & sides so tools don't roll too far.

I wish I had that much space to work with...
Unfortunately I have a single car garage (in which the prado does not fit) so space is very limited. Recently I've been using a trailer as a second work bench. Its high for a trailer but not high enough to act as a good work bench.
Life goal - own a big enough shed for the prado and much work space...Last edited by Spilsy; 07-01-2016, 10:50 AM.Spilsy
