The Finke Offroad race, Alice Springs's version of Bathurst yet this race is offroad and very much unlike Tuff Truck speed is the ejective. Over 400klms of adrenilen pumping whoops, sand dunes and dust. This event hosted in Alice Springs every year since the early 70's has always attracted a huge following for spectators and competitors alike.

30 odd vehicles and over 500 bikes and quads, there is plenty to see. Last night was the prologue, the spectators chance to get up close and see the mighty machines. Meet the drivers and their vehicles, some professional outfits with shiney paint jobs and hugh engines and others built in backyards and resemble something out of Mad Max.

There is even a vehicle built by inmates from Alice Springs Goal, funny enough the engine in this machine was built by the notorious John Murdoch (Falconio kombi murder).

Amongst the lineup of buggies and utes was one lonely Suzuki Sierra powered by a Vitara engine with a supercharger to add a bit more power. This year happens to be the tenth event for this Zook and im hoping it will go well.

Today is the time trials were the vehicles and bikes ride around a purpose built track to determine their starting grid. Sunday they embark on their journey south to the township of Finke at one minute intervals, some make it some dont. They camp the night or spend the every possible minute repairing their machines for the Monday return journey.

Unlike other years its been dry and dusty, but this year has been cold wet and miserable (yep its been raining). So I expect it to be an interesting weekend and some pretty ordinary camping. A waterproof swag and plenty of cold cans and a warm campfire is in order.
