Prado 120 Stiff vent control knob help.

My 2005 GLX vent control knob does not want to go into the windshield zone and overall is quite stiff to operate.Just wondering if anyone has similar issues I thought possibly damaged cable or control arm and lubrcation?

My 2007 does exactly the same - it's fine at all other settings but doesn't want to go fully clockwise to the screen setting. Next time the front panel is out, I'll have a good look, although it's quite tight in there.

I had a bit of a look today, pulled the glovebox off and went to check the duct filter but it wasn't even there! Ducts are lined with dirt and dust, may have something to do with the stiff vent control. Also I plan to put a new head unit in soon so I will probably just wait and look into it further then.
