  • Help identify location

Hopefully someone knows where this spot is. The picture was taken in central Queensland, we were travelling from WA via the Plenty and Donohue Higways and from memory this was the first significant set of hills we came across. It was between Barcaldine and Emerald.

It got quite steep and there was a lookout half way up a very windy road. My old Surf struggled in first gear and by the time we pulled into the lookout the temp guage was in the red zone. I got out and took this picture and then noticed that coolant was spewing out everywhere. I then spent the next hour trying to recover the situation.

As a result I cant remember where this spot was. Hopefully it will look familiar to someone. From memory it was considered a significant location? It certainly became a significant location for us, it was here that the Ministry for Finance decided we needed a new vehicle. A week after we got home we bought the Prado Come in spinner

My guess would be Drummond Range Lookout west of Bogantungan, you can hear the roadtrains coming from miles away.
The railway line should be just at the bottom of the slope in the foreground.

Yes, Dummond Range is the first one out of Emeraldand the next is the Great Dividing range between Alpha & Jericho.

Drove many a train up and down the Drummond range when I was in Emerald.

Thanks for the help, Drummond Range Lookout sounds familiar. I only got to see the view for a minute or two, then panicked when I saw the coolant everywhere.
