  • Heading Down To Adelaide

    Hi All,

I will not be on that much if at all this coming week as we are driving down to Adelaide at about 4 am tomorrow, Sunday, morning.

Yea though we drive through the valley of death, we will fear no evil cause when we come back through it we will be 2" higher.

Well we are going to start limping home tomorrow instead of Sunday. Going to overnight in Pt Augusta. We will hopefully get to see the SA PPers at Maccas before they go off to Morgan.

Not an entirely rewarding trip this time what with the engine problems which will mean I will have to bring the car back down in a couple of weeks time to get it fixed properly.

In the meantime I will be getting a supplemental CAV filter put on in Alice.

        Cheers

Thanks Chippy, I am hoping too! One thing is for certain, if that engine light goes on I am going to have to push it till it siezes cause I have two children onboard and I will be buggered if I am shutting down in the middle of nowhere with them in the car.

Jeez Mav, it all sounds bloody disappointing mate!!

Really hope the drive home is uneventful. I understand the stresses of a long drive with two kids in the back, add to that the worries about the engine, dont envy you that one.

Maybe see you on the way through in the morning.

Just arrived back in Alice after a slow slog back up the track. Fuel economy has gone right out the window.

I am used to seeing figures around the 9.1l/100km, on the way down to adelaide we averaged 10.1l/100km but we were towing a trailer too. Now on the way back we averaged 13.7l/100km and many times on straight roads we were seeing figures in the 18l/100km range. Me thinks that all is not well in the engine arena. It was definitely running rough and I could hear the injector rattle even when it was warm.

Also something is amiss with either the suspension or the alignment that was done cause I had to fight the Prado all the way home, it was pulling wildly to the right. I will be taking it in to get an alignment to see if that is the problem otherwise it has to be something gone worng with the suspension.

What a great trip this turned out to be.

Bummer to hear of the dramas Mav.

I have been following the thread about your d4d rattle with interest and must say I reckon it's a bastard what has happened.

I'm actually scared S*@#$less as I am awaiting delivery of a new d4d Prado - It's arrived at the dealer in Brissy but I'm off out west this week for work so will go down and pick up the new car next week.

But having read of your dramas and those of others enduring the "d4d rattle" I'm seriously thinking of telling the dealer to cancel the diesel order and give me a petrol prado instead.

Hope it all sorts out well for you and the rest having d4d issues soon!.

Not good, but at least it didn't leave you stranded on the side of the road.
Hopefully they get your new injectors in sooner rather than later and I also hope a wheel alignment sees you right in the suspension dept.

Are you happy with the lift and ride?

Sorry we missed you at maccas on sat morning, I would have liked to say Hello... maybe next time. Glad you met the others, they seem a great bunch of people.

Like the added height, too be perfectly honest I did not notice any real difference to the ride factor. Possibly due to the ongoing problems my mind was not exactly focussing on the ride side of things.

Sorry that we did not get to meet up at Maccas, but like you say the others seemed like a top bunch of guys and girls. Looks like it was a top day out too. I got to meet up with Tim, Bitdist, as well which was an added bonus as we have had a lot to do with each other on the forum with the Roadrover purchase and install.

The fuel price has not stopped the grey nomads from touring, the Stuart HWY was chockers with vans of all descriptions. And when it came close to 4 oclock the parking bays were like K-Mart carparks on sale days.

Anyway now to get a supplemental CAV filter fitted and get a wheel alignment done.

                            Cheers

I would highly recommend that the very first thing you buy for your new Prado is a supplemental CAV filter just for peace of mind, it may save you many thousands of dollars and unnecessary downtime.
