  • Prado 150 Rocker Cover cracked 100,000 kms

    Hi All,
Just completed my 100k service on my 2013 150 Diesel . Advised i have a cracked rocker cover. Car has been serviced every 10K at Toyota . Of course it is out of warranty. I am a little concerned and disappointed that A- this has happened at 100K on a completely stock std vehicle and B- Toyota's response... Tough luck mate - That's $ 450 BUCKS.
I assume at the 80K service as per book service, valve clearances are checked. Would this not mean they remove the rocker cover. Amazing, 20000km later its cracked.???????? Oh what a feeling I don't have.....

Could you post a picture of where it cracked or has the job been done already?
If it's cracked at a bolt position I think it's worth taking further since you're correct in that only Toyota personnel have been in there.
Cover is designed to be removed and re-fitted numerous times without failing.

      Exactly.

Don't worry it will be minor.
      2 options.
Clean & a Little black silicone. Or
Wait till 120 & replace it then. Can get them for under 300. Closer to 250 I think. Seen it a bit.

Got my 2013 model back last week from the very expensive 120,000 klm service and was told the rocker cover was cracked and needed replacing at a cost of $540. The service man said that they see that quite often, two or three a month. Just had it done today and kept the old cover and the crack is at a bolt hole. How many more have had the problem and did the company come to the party in any way. I feel like taking it further.

250,000 k and no cracks for mine. I do my own servicing after warranty was out though. I would say it has been over tightened and that has made it crack. Doesn't need much only 9nm so easily over-tightened.

Unless it is a design/manufacturing fault, which it doesn't sound like, then it is due to over tensioning.
