Some Fuel supply issues observed NW WA

Hi all

Hope this is correct section.
Just been to Newman, over to Exmouth then back to Busselton. Along the way we saw a couple of Service Stations with "No Fuel" signs

For those outside the main state in Australia, we have a bit of a gas crisis here at the moment, and Diesel is being bought up big time as an alternative fuel for industry.

It appears the servos that were out of fuel were as a result of poor planning, rather than no fuel being available.

I spoke to Servo manager at Meekatharra, and he told me he was dipping tanks every day, and was planning about 2 weeks out. He thought the Servos who ran out hadnt been organised, and when they ordered fuel, were being told 2 weeks instead of 2 days for deliveries.

Roadhouses out of fuel were
Kumarina (some people camped there for 4 days waiting for fuel. $2.28/Litre))
Tom Price. (We got fuel, but it had only just arrived)

We had a sniff of fuel shortages before we left, and were topping up along way, and 180l goes a long way even if towing

Anyone heading up that way soon, just keep it in mind if heading off the major roads

Halls Creek also ran out of fuel, It arrived the day my parents were leaving but some others had to camp out for 2 days waiting. they have paid up to $2.30 but will keep topping up where they can as they head SW from Broome this week. ( Hilux Tank only 115 ltrs...bet they wish they had a Prado).

Tom Price quite often runs out of fuel as the tanks are not big enough.
They used to be able to get fuel from the mine but when they changed suppliers this no longer occurs.

Yeah it's not unheard of. I know I have to be careful when I visit my Parents at Jurien Bay on a long weekend or particularly at Easter time. I was caught once when the tourists had sucked both fuel stations dry on the last day of the holidays. Managed to limp back to Perth that day but only just! Now I always make sure I fill up beforehand, although now with the 180L tank it's never been a problem. 8) The servo's usually don't get hit that hard. On the 1 or 2 days a year they do, you have to be early.
