SA: Possible GVM Upgrade

Hi. Razorback is currently away, but for some time has been chasing for a group buy for Prado GVM upgrade.

The current best possibility found in SA is for around 3250kg @ $3k for one vehicle. The engineer is asking how many Prado's will be in the buy.

No current buy offer yet, but it is sounding hopeful that a significant cost will drop if we have 6 or more GVM upgrades in one buy.

When (and if) the buy happens, each of us in the buy will have to make a deposit to confirm we are serious.

If you are interested, please reply to this thread and Razorback will respond when he returns and has more info.

GEEEXL, Sorry, I am only relaying this possible buy for Razorback, (he is off the net at the moment on a trip). Have no info of the engineer/company involved.

PM is not operational on Pradopoint.

A 'normal' GVM upgrade for a Prado is around 190kg. Razorback is hoping his offer will be around 350kg. No confirmation yet.

A standard Prado would need suspension upgrade to meet the requirements. An existing upgraded suspension will still need to be checked.

i am back from our long winded trip

i spoke with an engineer that has been doing the Lovel's upgrade
they don't do it for the 120
but he is willing to do the sums and come up with the details , but that costs money

i did find a place that would do the gvm up to the 3090kg ( the sum of the axles) but that's not enough for me
that could be done here for around $900 to $1k

he wasn't too keen at first to do a group thing ( as nobody usually jumps in), but the more i talked to him the better he felt about it
i said i would only come back to him if we could get 4 or more then he could work out what the costs would be

he has said it's not about the suspension , it's all to do with the axles, front uprights & bearings
he already has a 2800kg towing up grade available ( as they listed as that oversea's)
there will be a swerve test and another test (i cant remember) springs and shocks were only required to get the car off the bump stops at the max GVM

Any idea of ballpark costs if we've already done the suspension? Do they upgrade anything other than the suspension?

it's trying to use your suspension
the details about the upgrade are what the components can handle , not who's springs & shocks you have

their main concern is the front axles & front wheel bearings & uprights

to do 1 car could be in the order of $2500 to $3000 , but if we get enough they might be willing to share the costs , that's why i need to know i have enough cars to approach them with

i have a set of axles out of a car
i am looking at borrowing a set of uprights for them to check over & a pair from the 150 series as they have a higher front axle loading
a car will need to do the swerve test & brake test

all the cars will need to go through regency for an inspection after the upgrade so that is a $250 odd dollar charge we will all have ( but that was included in above estimates , the final figure will depend if we get enough people to share the testing costs
