  • A fish and quite cheap way to tour Oz

When we stopped at Seisia on the Cape in late June, we met some folk who are touring the country with their Toyota powered solely with filtered oil collected from fish and chip shops. The diesel motor had only a couple of very minor modifications to make it run on the give-away fuel.
Their web site makes very interesting reading.

My Father-in-law was looking into this before he bought a prius

There are a few vehicles around our area doing this and yes, they do smell like a fish & chip shop.

There are also some using oil from donut shops - and the smell is a lot more pleasant.

With rising fuel prices - the whiting is on the wall for a switch to alternatives.

Wonder if the D4D could cope? It seems to struggle with traditional diesel.
It certainly would give you a haddock if it stuffed up the injectors

Spose you could always call into a hospital and get a grey nurse to help you out if things got a bit crook...and if she got cheeky you could snapper one.

Do you need to wear a leatherjacket when filling up?

I spose when filling the the tank - you would fillet to the bream??

With a set up like that - the world is your oyster??

Ah it's obvious I'm not the full s..quid so don't go getting crabby at my fishy jokes.

No worries Jacto - when it comes to fishing and jokes you gotta keep the lines tight - especially the one liners

They must have struggled with the fish and chip shops in the Cape, or did they cook their own??

From memory, Plucker, they picked up something like 400 litres in Cairns so were carrying quite a bit, but I think may have also gone into Weipa and got some and also did a collection and got some left overs at the restaurant at the holiday park at Seisia.
