The below forwarded to me by industry suppliers, the more information they can have, the better prepared they may be to get the right decisions made.
"As you are aware there has been a significant amount of activity recently with respect to Government regulation relating to the raising of vehicles.
As your representative, we are devoting significant time and resources to ensuring that State transport agencies develop harmonised and workable regulation in this area which takes into account consumer and industry stakeholder views but does not comprise overall road safety. While the proposed VSI 50 regulation in NSW has dominated the agenda in recent months, the issue is much broader than just one state.
As part of our strategy , we have actively engaged with the Federal and State driver representative groups with the objective of sharing information and developing a common position where possible in our representations to Government. This engagement has been coordinated through the Australian National Four Wheel Drive Council (ANFWDC) .
To assist in strengthening our position it is critical that we present Governments with as much research and data as possible to validate both the safety of vehicle lifts being undertaken in Australia as well as the extent of vehicle modification and the variety of legitimate reasons why an owner would undertake a modification. In short we need to dispel the myths that some people have that modified vehicles are all unsafe and driven by 20 year old “hoons”.
As part of the process to support our combined advocacy efforts, the ANFWDC have developed a short survey designed to be completed by vehicle owners which gathers some basic information on the demographics of the vehicle owner, the type of modifications undertaken and the reasons for the modification. This survey has been circulated widely through the 4WD Clubs nationally with a strong response to date however we are keen to broaden the focus of the survey and are seeking your assistance with this.
We are requesting that you forward the survey to your retail customers with a request to complete the survey.
The survey can be accessed by visiting the website: http://www.anfwdc.asn.au/
Then opening the survey by clicking on the heading: “Participate in our survey of modified vehicles here. Your assistance is appreciated”
The results of this survey are a critical part of our information gathering to support our position to Government, therefore your assistance in encouraging your customers to complete the survey is greatly appreciated."
