    Hey guys.

I am currently looking for an Off Road Camper Trailer. I know we would all love the top of the line, but for some of us the budget will not stretch that much.

What I am asking is has anyone bought/had experience with campers from eBay. I am looking at these two.

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEW-4X4-OFF-R...item3ca6820778

Both claim to be Australian built.

Any thoughts or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

myswag.org is the best forum to get info about camper trailers. Like everything, you get what you pay for and you can never beat tried and true along with back-up service. Heaps of good products out there. Just need to identify one that meets your needs, and be within your budget.

Renting one or alternatively speaking with those who own one is also a very good idea. Especially the chance to see a set-up in action - tested in real world conditions and not just on a showroom floor. Popular brands speak volumes about reliability, fit for purpose design and price. Good luck - we love our camper trailer and can't wait to use it again and again. 8)

        Re: eBay Camper Trailers

Hi, we bought an ebay trailer for the same reason as you and yes, you get what you pay for but we've spent more than 70 nights in ours since December last year and loved every minute of it. Don't regret spending $2400 at all - I bet we've used it more than most people who own a kimberley camper or such!

Anyway, here's a thread on it.

The main points I'd just check off after having bought ours...

Our cover was stuffed pretty quickly, it had no flap/velcro over the zip. Make sure yours does to stop dust getting in the zip or get one added (pretty cheap to do).
Be aware of how the trailer's built. Ours is strong but it is strong because it uses rails alongside the trailer which stops us using that area for jerry cans etc. I have to do some major work to get them off and strengthen the trailer some other way.
Ours doesn't have a 3-way (read offroad) hitch. We've taken it in some pretty off road places but I always feel a little nervous about doing it. I plan to change that as soon as I have a spare bit of cash.

Best thing of all, you don't have to worry about scratching it as you're not likely to damage it's low value Have fun.
        Cheers - Phil Taylor

          Re: eBay Camper Trailers

another great place for campertrailer info is
          www.campertrailers.org

check out the camper trader section and the tech tips section..

There are abour 4500 members on the Yahoo group..

A few people have bought the ebay ones some are happy.
Others had the canvas leak and tear apart during a mild storm.

You get what you pay for...

            Re: eBay Camper Trailers

A neighbour bought one of those cheaper trailers with standard rims and light duty accessories complete with an Ozitent foldout tent section.

Whilst camping at Poison Creek, east of Esperance, a gust of wind ripped the awning, bent several poles and ripped the zippers on the door and a couple of windows.

Nobody wants to repair it. The canvas is quite lightweight, the zippers are pretty flimsy and the tent poles are visibly thinner in contruction than the usual decent ones you can buy from good camping stores.

It also looks hopelessly overloaded for the suspension setup. Looks like somebody has welded a couple of jerry can holders to the side of your common garden trailer.

Somebody has already stated the obvious: "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR."

              Hi Hubble80

We looked at cheap camper trailers Before settling on a Challenge camper, Beware the camper agent that stocked "el cheapo", told us that
The trailers where flat pack imported out of China and assembled in Ozzie and the tent tops slapped on as well.
Australian owned and made will be Superior. Maybe look at good used trailers within your needs and budget scope.
              Good luck Troy
