Cooper LTZ is a great looking tyre but only available in sizes 18inch plus at the moment, i have chased this one, no real plans in the future for smaller sizes.

        Re: 4wd action tyre comparo

I read the article in 4wd action and wondered where the tyre pressure was as well. A simple, we set the tyres to give us best performance would have covered it without going into detail. I run Maxxis 751 in town and was all set to shell out for a set of winter tyres to play with, either the Maxxis MT-762 or the BFG MT A/T-KM2's. It seems everyone want's to recommend the tyre they have paid for. Would anyone not buy either of these two again....?

          BF Goodrich

I currently have Cooper ATR's. I found them a vast improvement on the Dunlop Grandtreks of course...

I WAS thinking about going with BF Goodrich next time round but I have been told by several people (in the 4x4 industry) that BF Goodrich have changed their manufacturing plant recently and they are now made in Korea. The latest BF tyres have a much softer compound and are not wearing very well at all.

I do not have first hand knowledge of this but thought I should mention it, if someone else knows anything about BF Goodrich outsourcing to a cheaper plant and a reduction in tyre quality and toughness?

Hey Samo. I reckon I'll go the Cooper ST's next time! I am happy with the ATRS but want a mid more "agro" next time

Whereas the Cooper ATRs have harder rubber which chips to buggery on the dirt and gibber.

Whether or not BFG has moved it's production offshore to Korea I cannot confirm but.............isn't it funny that you drive a car made in Japan, make your coffee in a machine made in Hungary, cook your dinner in a pot made in Pakistan, talk on your mobile made in Taiwan, type onto your computer made in China yet you worry about tyres made in Korea?

Valid points Bushbasher. We live in a multicultural community and bugger all is made in Australia these days (my girlfriend is Korean and I've got great mileage out of her so far ) although she made need a retread soon ops:

My point is though, that the latest BF Goodrich tyres are not as hard wearing as they were, regardless of where they are made. I checked my source (a local 4WD store). BF Goodrich have moved their production to Taiwan. He says customers are telling him they are only getting 30,000 or 40,000 before they wear out.

I am just relaying what I was told. I was intending to buy BF Goodrich next time round, because a lot of people have em, but I have been told they are not what they were.

I realise tyre maintenance, pressures, rotating and all that has a bearing in this, or maybe this store just wants to sell more Coopers...

I don't get on this forum as much as I should, but thought I should relay this story for others to judge.

Jeez, I hope she doesn't read what you have written! My missus would take half my Prado, half my Cobra and both my balls!
I've managed 26,000 out of my BFGs and they are still 80%. But I wouldn't really care if I only got 40,000 - that's still 15,000 more than I got from a set of Cooper ATRs.

                  Re: 4wd action tyre comparo

                  Hi all,

After reading the article i wasn't feeling to good about my choice in tyres, BFG ATs, as the article suggests that they are no good in sand or in mud. well the other weekend we went on a club trip and did a bit of sand driving on a private farm. it may not be a very fair comparrison as we had a wide variety of vehicles, one 90 series, a 80 series, a 100 series on cooper st's, a couple of patrols and a fairly serious mitsubishi challenger (featured issue 134 4WD action), a colorado and a triton.
One of the patrols and the challenger were running goodyear MT's and most of the others varying brands of AT's except the 90 series on highway tyres. well i may be biased but the 120 series prado with its BFG AT"S shit all over everyone else. The toughest sand hill (with a sharp turn just before the top) only myself the challenger and the patrol with MT's could get over, most of the others had 4 or 5 attempts before giving up. the challenger and the Patrol both made it on the fouth attempt i got over 1st go no problems and i didnt use the lockers. the dune was well and truly cut to shreds before any of us that made it had a go.
So i feel much better about my choice of tyre now. All we need now is a bit of rain so i can go and find some mud

                  Cheers Andrew

You have a valid point chester. A few issues back Roothy was using a Leatherman to dice the onions during his cooking segment... ops:

On the other hand. I have either bought, or subscribed to 4WD Action for a few years now - so I may as well put SOME faith in the magazine...

I have ordered some spacers off amts and I am definitely going the Cooper ST's next time round because of the write-up :P

the best way to get advise is to ask people who have the tyres you want to get, of course if coopers r a major sponsor of they mag you work for and they give you some tyres to run on you will give them a good rap, when i bought my tyres ( funny enough they r cooper st) i based my opinions on what i have heard from owners and what i had seen around. i must say i am very happy with my choice and thats all that matters to me. cheers samo

New Range of Coopers coming this year (2010)

                          Hi Guys,

I have been speaking with a local tyre dealer and pricing Cooper ST's (and discussing the issue of sidewall cracks - my current ATR's developed unsightly cracks appearing very early on in their life but have not failed as such)

Coopers Tires Australia won't say exactly when - but there is a new range of Cooper Tires coming to Australia "soon" - by the end of 2010 at latest (which hopefully will be devoid of sidewall issues?)

I probably won't be able to hang on myself but thought I should pass this on to people who have the luxury of waiting...

Maybe other people "more in the know" can find out more than my local dealer can tell me :?:

                            4wd action tyre comparo MUDDIES??

Can anyone help me with details of the new Mud Tyre Comparo. Can't find it anywhere on the 4wd Action site - which issue? Is it still available, or can anyone scan it for me?

I think it was the BFG KM2 followed by Maxxis Bighorn 762. Where was the kevlar Wrangler? I am interested in the details of what they tested and the results.

                            Cheers

It was a somewhat distored test so take the results with a pince of salt. I also don't recall them testing the new MT/Rs. I had a feeling that someone had already scanned and it was available. Can't recall who.
