ARB 47 Litre Fridge/ Freezer

My wife has just purchased a new ARB fridge, I only went in to get a set of driving lights, so we are looking forward to trying out over the Easter weekend with a couple of day trips. THe wife wants to fill it with 72 cans as per the advertising :P .

The fridge was bought as part of a package deal which included a cover and ARB chair and since the local ARB was having a sale on all ARB and IPF gear we got it even cheaper than the advertised price.

I do count myself lucky. Am a bit worried as no one else seems to have one and they have been out for a little while now so will just have to see how it preforms.

I hope you are filling it with "72 worthwhile cans", as for how should it go, they are a rebadged Waeco with a different lid closing mechanism. I don't think you will have any problems with it as ARB back all products sold by them and Waeco build a quality product.

I've had one since they came out. Works brilliantly, hasn't missed a beat.

Well just used the fridge for the first time on a day trip that I will do a write up on later and really enjoyed the cold drink at lunch time for a change. The only gripe I have with the fridge is not the fridge it self but the canvas cover I have for it.

The cover uses velcro which is meant to stick to the fridge but for the life of me I can not get it to stick at all. I did as the instructions said and washed the unit with clean water before putting cover on but the adhesive on the back of the velcro will not stick.

Anyone have any ideas how to make it stick? :?

I have one these and are very happy with it. We took it on an 18 day trip to South Australia in December / January in temperatures exceeding 45 degrees and it never complained. It is strong, solid, easy to operate, comes with AC and DC inputs (no need for adapter) internal light and is very easy to clean. I know this because the endless corrugations claimed a few of my cans and had to clean it it on a regular basis. It has a wetsuit type of cover and I agree that the double sided tape behind the velcro strips are not up tp the task. They just don't stick to the fridge. Since January we've had it on a few day trips and weekend trips as well and had no problems.

One very satisfied customer.

Hey guy's,

I just returned from my first trip away with the new ARB fridge. It worked a treat ! as far as the velcro tape is concerned i was told to wash the part of the fridge where the tape goes with alcohol , i did this but it still does'nt stick! i'll try again and see what happens.
Is it really a rebadged Waeco or do they just use the same compressor?

Look forward to hearing how the alcohol wipes go for the second time.

I had heard that they use the same compressor and that is the only thing that would make a connection between the two units.

The waeco has a travel cover that fits over the fridge with zips, maybe try one of these to see if they fit. When you look closer at off road shops you will find that most of them are franchises and the HO focuses on rebadged goods to enable them a competitive advantage, nothing wrong with that.

I have purchased a lot of gear from ARB and the advantage I see is the fact that they stand by their products when you need warranty.

I got the travel cover as a freebie with the fridge. First thing I did when I got home was to fit it, and I had no problem with the adhesive.

My understanding is that it uses one of the same third party compressor sets that the Waco uses as well, and its made in the same factory (Electrolux?) but it is not a rebadged Waco. The controls and display are different, and it has the end hinging removable lid. The sales spiel had a dozen or more improvements over the Waco, draining and cleaning being one of it's best features, especially compared to an Engel with their un-cleanable internal condensor. The differences are minor, but it's good to see them having a go at building a better mousetrap.

We also have the ARB fridge with the cover, and are more than happy with it. It has been on a couple of recent camping trips (one overnighter, and just now Easter for 5 days). Everything has kept very cold, almost frozen, as we keep it in the back of the car connected to the battery, with the key in the ignition on accessory all day. We ran it colder during the day, so that at night when the car was off and locked up, it remained cold.
