  • Rear spring change

What is the easiest way to swap rear springs on a 150? I have previously done it by jacking up BOTH sides at the same time and going from there. However I was wondering if it may be easier to just jack it up one side at a time and only disconnect the shock and sway bar one side at a time. The thinking is that doing it this way may help by compressing the the non jacked up side and so extending the jacked up side to allow easier extraction of the spring. Thoughts??? [ I am swapping Dobinsons 327s out in favour of 325s as I don't currently need the weight carrying ability of the former. As the car is a GX it is approximately 100kg lighter than the GXL anyway and is sitting too high for my liking/needs] Thanks.

To allow for easier extraction, undo the bolts holding the brake line bracket that is on the passenger's side of the diff pumpkin.

Thanks amts. Job done this arvo with both wheels off. I had the sway bar and shocks disconnected and the ABS wires unclipped along with brake line brackets and the hand brake brackets but still found the 327s more difficult to get out than they were to get in originally. Despite having the diff on a trolley jack lowered right down and acting as a pivot and using another one to jack up the opposite side, I still had to resort to the spring compressors to get them out [and I hadn't used them to get them in originally.] I also used them to reinsert the 325s. Hmm. I shall have to have a good think before I swap the 327s back in next year for a planned desert trip. I think that last time I used a scissor jack to really force open the gap on the insertion side. Mental note made. Any other suggestions accepted. The slowest part of the job is getting it jacked up high enough and putting it on stands and blocks, chocking front wheels etc. The ride is softer and it is sitting about 15-20 mm lower than with the 327s. I will see where it settles in the next few weeks but no worries about legality now. Incidently the 327s and 325s were the same free length.

Yes, use the factory bottle jack to open the gap further. Shouldn't need spring compressors then.
