Has anyone out there mounted this radio in there vehicle. If so, where did you mount the unit and can you hear it from wherever. Is the speaker in it good enough to be heard if it is mounted under the dash area or under centre console? Thanks

Try searching this forum, and you will surely find your answer.
FWIW, I have mine mounted in the glovebox, and the inbuilt speaker was sufficient. Though I also like listening to the emergency-services bands, and that was barely audible, so I eventually installed one of GME's speakers in the centre console. It's a cheap, but worthwhile option.

Re: GME TX3440 UHF
Mine is on the drivers' side, behind the dash panelling. I found an existing bracket between steering wheel and centre console (behind the plastic covers of course) and mounted the 3440's mounting straight to that. Required me to take off all the covers below the steering wheel (as it enters the dash).
The radio fits very nicely and I was able to bolt it down very well. Since the controls are on the remote mic, I mounted the mic on to the little black square dash filler to the left of the steering wheel. It required me to drill two small holes into that black plastic filler to mount the mic hook, but again a very good fit that turned out very neat. The cord runs down, around the panelling and back up behind the dash panels to the radio, well out of the way of moving feet / legs.
From a speaker perspective, I had an old Nokia car kit remote speaker and used that on the unit. Mounted the speaker next to front dash power plug just below the ash tray in front of the gear levers.
I'll try and get some picks if you're interested.2003 Prado GXL Auto 1KZ-TE; Sovereign bar; Rhino HD Aero; OI recovery points; Scorpion radiator protection plate; GME 3440; SandGrabba; MaxTrax; ARB portable compressor; Cargo barrier; GrandCraps; and one long wishlist...

Re: GME TX3440 UHF
Macca1, i have this radio mounted in my vehicle and placed it under the centre console just to the left of the handbrake. So far all radio transmissions have been heard loud and clear, there is also pre drilled, threaded (10mm bolt) mounting points under the console. Hope this helps.

Re: GME TX3440 UHF
Hey Sam
Nope sorry... it's a 120 series (2003 GXL), and I'm not sure about the similarities or differences of the dash or the crossbar structure behind it.2003 Prado GXL Auto 1KZ-TE; Sovereign bar; Rhino HD Aero; OI recovery points; Scorpion radiator protection plate; GME 3440; SandGrabba; MaxTrax; ARB portable compressor; Cargo barrier; GrandCraps; and one long wishlist...

Re: GME TX3440 UHF
I've just fitted one under the dash between the steering column and the centre console. As noted above, there is a convenient bracket there although I fitted a small extension to make room for the cables out the back. Volume seems OK. Attached the mike holder with velcro to the dash. Was Prado 150 GXL T/D auto, graphite, tint, factory towbar, D697LT, Autosafe cargo barrier, ARB deluxe bar, ABR-Sidewinder dual battery & monitor, GME TX3440, ARB fridge, Safari snorkel, Maxtrax, Tekonsha P3, ScanGaugeII, OME suspension, Tigerz11 winch, TG150, Now Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with QL and ORAII
