  • Prado towbars - what's the difference?

    Hello everyone,,

I'm a new Pradopoint member so please forgive me if the question I am asking here is already on an old thread that I cannot find.
My question is: When I search on-line for Prado 120 series towbars, I get two versions of towbars to choose from.
    1. The normal full steel bar with chassis rail mounting brackets, and mobdro.bio/ luckypatcher.tips/ kodi.bio/
    2. What appears to be a tow bar receiver unit that bolts directly onto the rear cross-member of the vehicle.
What is the better option to go with?
Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.....

A distinction is made between detachable Toyota LAND CRUISER PRADO towbars with a hand and lever system and fully automatic systems. The main differences between the systems are their ease of use, convenience and price. ... Hand and lever systems, in contrast, are manually tensioned and secured. get-shareit.com get-vidmateapk.com

Go with the full width Hayman Reece style. Cheaper from an after market supplier too, including harness.

Get the full width Hayman Reece. I had the other one on my SX and the two bolts going up from underneath sheared off. I was told it could be fixed but it would probably happen again. Not what you want to hear when you tow a 2.5 ton caravan. So I got it replaced with the full width Hayman Reece. jiofi login forpc.onl

If I had to get a new one for my 120 I'de go for a hayman reese full width style. The factory one was subject to a recall because of bolts coming loose. Also you are limited to a simple hockey stick WDH as toyota dont recommend a hayman type WDH when using the factory hitch. I havent had any issues using the factory hitch but it limits my options.

I wouldn't recommend a WDH for the Prado 120 regardless of the tow bar.

The LandCruiser Prado's 500kg towing capacity increase to a 3000kg maximum (with 300kg maximum towball download) finally matches the towing capacity of the Ford Everest, Holden Trailblazer, Isuzu MU-X and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport mybkexperience mcdvoice

Can I please resurrect this thread? I'm trying to decide between the Hayman Reese bar at just over $1,200 or the Toyota bar at just over $1,300 for my new 150 series. Both fitted with wiring. How to decide? The price difference in favour of the HR is less that it used to be it seems. Any other reason to choose one over the other? My other posts indicate that I am obsessed about weight and trying to maintain my payload. The HR seems to be wider - does that mean it's heavier? Stronger?

I've done a little more digging and, unsurprisingly, there doesn't seem to be much of a weight difference, if any. My local Toyota dealer was able to give me a weight of 32.5Kg for their towbar, which I think is the weight of the bar rather than the shipping weight, as it's the weight listed in their catalogue. Hayman Reese claim a shipping weight of around 34.5 Kg, which I assume includes a couple of kg in packaging.

So ... any other reason to choose one over the other?
