Wondering if Avenza Maps 1:250k australia bundle downloaded from GetLost maps works well

Hi, I'm new to this forum and no doubt questions similar have appeared before. I'm looking for the latest contributions from your knowledge base about use of Avenza maps downloaded onto an iPad for offline use and tracking and the alternatives (Hema or others) . I've used Avenza in small numbers for confined areas before but not for the whole of Australia in offline capacity. I am trying to prep a trip throughout Aus and want to be able to get the best options available (other than paper Topos and Books of maps). If I download the GetLost bundle for Aus and get 554 maps, at 1:250k for a small donation fee, is that a good option. I would be most grateful for any recommendations or any other best practice ideas from your experience. DB

There is no perfect solution here I am afraid...

Firstly, Hema just can't seem to get their act together with their iOS apps, so I have ruled them out.

I use this combo:

EOTopo (https://www.exploroz.com). This is pretty good, with heaps of detail (too much perhaps?), and the points of interest database is particularly good, but the app and the maps are not particularly nice to use. I also don't like that it shows all tracks whether or not you can actually access them.

Memory-Map (https://memory-map.com) with the full HEMA raster map bundle ($109). I like these maps for touring around. The right amount of detail and easy to read. The Memory-Map app is terrible though.

Avenza Maps is a very good app, but I'm not sure how good the GetLost maps are. If the full HEMA maps bundle was available from Avenza - that would be a great option, but I don't believe it is. You can download individual HEMA maps only.

Thanks, that's helpful so far. Is Memory-Map a one-off subscription/download. I noticed it has a 7 day trial version but found at my first try with it, it was clunky and not so user friendly (as you indicated). Is it worth persisting though, is also the question?. I'll take a closer look at exploreoz in the meantime. Someone else might know more about the GeLost map quality. I understood they had plenty of useful detail. You dont think the dedicated HX-1 is of any value? dB

The only reason to persist is that you can get all the HEMA maps for about $100. Also, there is a Windows and macOS app available, which can be handy.

A dedicated HX-1? I've thought about it, but I like to keep things minimal and given I have a super computer, in the form of an iPhone, already available, I don't really need another device.

Thanks. I took a look at the EOTopo and thought that might be a good option. Cost is pretty good and similar overall to the memory-map. I agree the dedicated unit is sort of unnecessary given the other options available. I have the Hema desert tracks book, so have an idea of what their maps are like. Thanks for your input. dB
