  • reversing camera stopped working

hi I have just installed a front and rear dashcam to my 2014 prado but now my reversing camera won't come on. this is strange as the dashcam is a stand alone item and I have gotten the power from under the dash. any ideas on what might of happened?

The camera's in Toyota's are usually 6 Volt units, are you using the factory rear camera with a factory headunit?

The OEM reversing camera in the 150 Prado IS operated on 6 volts supplied by the radio/video head unit. You'll have to give us a lot of details of what your DashCam is and how you wired it up Eg what Toyota circuit under the dash for starters?

I have some experience with the video/camera setup in the 150 Prado. I've integrated a 12v camera mounted on my camper-trailer into the Prado's video screen when the trailer is connected. Have also installed a 2-camera dashcam/recorder in a earlier car (not my Prado, though).

thanks for reply blw and GeeWhizz. The camera and head unit are standard and the dashcam fitted is the GATOR GHDVR98W . the prado is an ex mines car so when i removed the pannels under the steering colum i found two wire with a male connector on it but NOT in use. after testing i found it still had auxillary power and the othe was earth so i just used these wires for the dashcam. also I have noticed today that when i unlock the car insted of a singal BEEP, it now does "10"beeps for some reason. would this be related or a seperate issue. the car runs as well as it did before aswell.

My (Jan 2017) Prado is also an ex-hire car that was used in WA's goldfields/mines (according to the service history). I also found a cable pair coiled up in the dash cavity. I asumed that this was either for a two-way or the trailer brake controller. It (or both) were removed before I bought the car.

However, I don't know what is going on with your car or it's wiring. Maybe someone else knows what can cause 10 (or multiple) beeps. That might give you lead on what is going on.
