  • Isuzu Cracked Guards

Just read an interesting article on news.com that Isuzu owners have been having issues with cracked inner guards on the mux and dmax, much like the 120 series and early 150s.
The bloke effected had an engineers report saying it wasn’t the bar and winch as that wasn’t affecting the guards, it was purely a design fault.
Has anyone had this problem in the latest model prados yet, or when was the latest year model affected?

Bars and winches are chassis mounted, so not the cause. Heavy batteries were the issue in the Prado.

The guard design was changed somewhere around 2013-14. I had my guards modified by Toyota under warranty because they cracked and my vehicle had no mods

Interesting that you had no mods. Good to know for future.
Toyota tried to tell me that an arb bar would void my warranty on the new prado as the weight might cause the chassis to flex and crack things. I’m calling complete BS on that, but it was interesting to hear them say it.
I’ve never believed it was the weight of accessories as the factory battery is in exactly the same spot as you’d mount a second battery on the other side and there really not a great deal of difference in weight between a start battery and a 100ah deep cycle.
Hopefully it doesn’t effect the new ones!!

The bullbar attaches to the chassis, so yes BS. The cracked guards were battery weight and in my case lots of corrugations

I understand that the bull bar is on the chassis, what I believe they are trying to say is the weight will flex the chassis and pull the front of the body down with it causing cracks. Personally I feel that’s a real stretch to see that happening.
just interesting to see other manufacturers having the same problems. Everyone jumps up and rips into Toyota whenever they have a problem, but seem to sweep other manufacturers mistakes under the rug.
Of course when Toyota has a problem a lot more people are affected as there would be 10:1 Toyota 4x4s on the road so the problem gets a lot of noise.
