The stock FJ's look funkeh. Especially the headlights/ indicators... Not in a good way  But FlyNdrive's FJ looks awesome. Maybe they will sell better if the 'stock' vehicles already came kitted out Either way... Pass :|

I think they look like damn good fun, I'd love to take one out in the dunes at beachport, we fun there a lot with the prado, but the FJ would be good to play with.
The guy Tom? who drives this FJ, is one of the "Test pilots" I think 8), wouldn't that be a great "job" to have

            Re: FJ Cruiser for Australia

I would hang on to your Prados, boys.
I have in my hand an Australian Toyota Dealer Bulletin, dated Dec 23rd 2010 which says -

"Please be advised that the FJ Chief Engineer and TMC Technical Centre have imposed a strict mass limit of 20kg to the front of the FJ Cruiser to be launched in 2011.
In doing so, neither steel nor alloy bull bar can be developed within this mass constraint.
Furthermore, aftermarket bull bars will not be able to comply with this mass criteria, so should not be fitted in line with TMC's direction."

So there you have it, guys. This is no doubt Toyotas response to the long list of body structure failures that this vehicle has experienced in the USA. Just google "FJ Cruiser fenders cracking" and you will see what I mean. It's a bit like the Prado 120 inner guards cracking, but ten times worse! So instead of fixing the problem (and they have had some years to do it) Toyota quietly slip this bulletin to their Dealer Principals.

Basically, the chassis flexes so much around the front body mounts that it fatigues the body shell around the inner guard panels, and they split. So by imposing this 20kg limit, Toyota have absolved themselves of many warranty issues that may arise in future. So if you fit a bull bar, or even an extra battery, don't even think about going to your Toyota Dealer with your warranty book when the front guards start falling apart.

Toyota have lost their way, and this vehicle does not deserve to carry the name of the FJ.

I guess this also helps to comply with the new EU bullbar standard?

                Re: FJ Cruiser for Australia

The EU standard is a different issue, and I don't know if the FJ even complies in standard form. Commodores and Falcons don't. So if you want a p*** weak 4WD in your future, bring on the EU standard. Don't get me going on our government and that ridiculous EU idea!

No, this is about Toyota forgetting their 4WD roots, which is a history of building solid, durable 4WD vehicles which survive for a long time and are worth the ridiculous sums of money that they charge. Toyota CAN build vehicles which hold together no matter how much gear you add to them (Hilux, 100 Series) and then produce this piece of rubbish that can't even carry a bull bar, and they expect us Aussies to buy it. Are they dreaming?

                  Re: FJ Cruiser for Australia

I posted a copy of the letter from Dec, [ITS 29th DEC ACTUALLY  ]and other details over on LCOOl FJ forum ages ago, and having gone into this in some depth with Toyota, as well as fixed many Prado's and Hiluxes that stress crack not only the inner fenders, but the firewall, radiator support panels, and inner gaurd arches, Toyota have made this limit as an ass covering excersice, as there is no actual limiting factor for this, other than the legal eagles, and the fact they wont have to work on a factory front bar option in steel, and alloy for a car they are importing 60-80 a month of.

ARB have a bar available already for the FJ, released here, next month [safari have a snorkel already, 2 models, one for "std" one for high performance, with better flow, I ordered the performance snorkel 8) ]

If you search the FJ cracks, you will see there are more than just flex issues creating these, and tyre contact when running 35's and 37's also causes the issue when the tyre hits the inner fender, as well as jumping them.

There is a different design front inner fender, where the crumple zone detents are spaced further apart, to help with this, but as our experience shows, put good aftermarket suspension in, and it wont hit the bump stop as hard, and wont stress crack.

The chassis of the 2011 model also seems to be more 150 than 120.

The worst stress cracked cars are the ones on stock suspension, that we see.

The FJ has been in the top 10 for resale in the U.S, and is here in very limited No's, has proven Prado underpinnings with better approach, departure, and ramp over, locker in the rear std, VSC and TC, 2wd/4wd, and will be great Toyota value with the dual VVTI 200kw 380Nm V6 and 5 speed auto.

I was impressed with how they drove, vs the Prado also, and you can tell they are over 250kg lighter than Prado, even with thier smaller sway bars, for easier articulation.

I think they are the thinking mans JK Wrangler, and havent they been successful, and had plenty spent on them, and I have customers looking for a local weekend 4wd/car, who think the FJ will be perfect for, and they can stay with a Toyota, and they can leave thier 100 or 200 alone, keep it reliable, with everything on it, just for trips.

They even come with 265/70/17 [32"stated] tyres

I posted all the details, pics etc from my findings, and test drives on the LCOOl FJ forum when I had one here afew weeks ago including sales broshure, specs, etc.

That picture was taken on the Rubicon Trail in Northern California. It is about 6,100-7,200 Ft. (1,860-2,185 Meters) in elevation so the spindly looking pine trees are what grows that high.

Its a nice little Sunday drive....and the FJ Cruiser kicks azz on it!

Ben, I think you will find it's the picture being rotated to make it look more agressive that people are commeting on. Tress grow up straight not at those funny angles so the FL is not crusing through their at the extreme it appears.

Not all trees grow vertically - windy conditions affect growth... but its only to 2 or three near the front of the photo - all the trees behind are perfectly vertical?

Nothing is perfectly veticle. The photo has been rotated that is all. Fix the angle and it's almost flat, not the 35 degree plus angle that is shown.
