  • Bloody insurance companies!!!

Got my insurance renewal today from AAMI and almost died - agreed value of $53K!!!

I immediately went online and was able to get agreed value of $58K with Allianz and $70K with NRMA.

Phoned AAMI and the best they could do was to up the agreed value to $55K.

If the worst ever happened (flogged or written off), I would be out of pocket by a huge amount (well over $20K).

Naturally enough I went for NRMA and was happy to pay an extra $350 in premium to get the extra coverage + cost of hire car + no cost windscreen claims.

    Anyone else have similar experiences?

My point is I used to think AAMI were one of the good guys - but it just goes to show that if you don't shop around, you will invariably be worse off.

After a 4 year fight with AAMI on trying to get a car repaired properly after they made me go to some dirtbag repairer *(cheapest quote).
I wouldnt touch them with a bargepole.

I ended up not getting the vehicle repaired in totl befroe I left because they were tying the hands of the decent repairers and refusing to allow them to fix the damage from the original accident.

As a note, it was a VX SS (V 8 ) and they increased premiums every year till its renewal this year was $790!
(Late 30 yr old, Rating 1 for 18 years +)..

What a joke of a company.

Never go back to AAMI either... used to think they were great until my first claim after my car was hit while parked (other party at fault and owned up to it).

Dodgiest repair that you could do, all second hand parts right down to a convex righthand side mirror (ex-Japan!). 12 months later and they are two worst panels on the car...

On another note WQBE offers 4 year replacement on a written off new car but is twice as expensive than RAC ($1000+ vs $500)... insurance companies, you can't win...

Go back to AAMI as they offer their "ahem" lifetime repair warranty....

My VX spent 8 months out of a year in a repairers somewhere......

My wife has her car with AAMI. When she had an at-fault prang a few years ago they took very good care of her car. All new (genuine) parts were used and to what appeared a good standard. About 3 months ago I noticed that the clear coat has started to lift on the bonnet. So we'll get it redone under the lifetime warranty. We are quite satisfied with the way AAMI has treated my wife's policy.

I have just taken my GXL out of lease and needed to get insurance organised. I thought I'd give AAMI a try in the first instance. I was shocked that the best they would do is $39k! That's the equivalent of the Redbook trade-in figure. Their policy was also market value as opposed to agreed. So the value could only go down over the period of the policy.

The premium wasn't that good either. I looked at NRMA for an agreed value of $47k and they were about $100 dearer than the market value AAMI. Now that NRMA has seen the error of their ways with choice of repairer I decided to go with them.

I also had a bad experience with AAMI on my Turbo Forester. A truck hit me and they chose the cheapest repairer. It came back with badly matching paint and overspray on the glass.

I took it straight to Toyota and traded it. Literally the very next day. Good riddance. Thankfully I had already arranged to trade it, they new about the damage.

I'll never use AAMI again for a car.

                Drew.

                  Bloody insurance companies

Just renewed my insurance with NRMA and was not totally happy, traded Rodeo in February and paid a difference of $69 and was told that renewal would be around the $700 for $62K agreed value. Renewal came through at $1072 for agreed value of $59,500, by the time I remembered that it was due, I was going to Coffs Harbour for the weekend and it was due that day, tried AAMI - cost nearly $1200 for $57K, didn't have time to shop around so ended up with NRMA but will be doing some searching for alternatives next time around.

I got priced $708 unlimited windows and 2 years new for old from SGIO,
and $881 from Western QBE as above but 5 years new for old.
                          Thats to insure a 68k VX T/D.

Just got through the same process myself...
Had AAMI for 3 years, the renewal come in with the cover of of $35,700 for the car AND accessories.... The best they could do is $40K...
The car got $25K worth the accessories on it   once I added up them all...

Took a DGA 4wd insurance (they use CGU) - covers car for $46500 + $19950 for accessories, including rating 1 protection. A car can be driven anywhere in Australia - no roads and water crossing all fully covered. All for $965.

                              NRMA choice

Be careful reading the PDS available from insurance companies. Even though you pay $50 extra from NRMA to use your own repairer they are allowed to charge you the difference between thier cheapest quote to do the repair to what your choice of repairer charges. I found out the hard way, being in the motor trade i know a good repair job and who does them so i am very particular about whom I use and recommend.
I personally cancelled any policies I had with the NRMA and went with GIO for that reason.
I am prepared to pay extra for the yearly premium to choose the repairer and feel comfortable knowing that my car is going to stay in a safe and presentable condition.
