  • Blackridge 2HP Direct Drive air compressor question

I bought a Blackridge 2HP air compressor, one of those that you can attach air tools to, for small jobs ard the house etc.

Well I hooked it up and started it as per instructions to build up air in the tank...however 10 to 15 mins later the compressor is still going and there is just a very tiny amount of pressure in the air tank, not enough even to pump up a tyre.

As this is new to me, can anyone advise how long it would take for such a compressor to build up to it's workable pressure (ard 85psi)?

This is the compressor I have:

About a minute ... two at the most ... I'll ask the obvious and do you know if the drain on the bottom of the tank is closed?

My compressor (which is similar in size to yours) runs for about 2-3 seconds then a valve closes automatically as the pressure builds up. This valve is on the air outlet fitting. If this were to jam open then the compressor would never build pressure. Perhaps this may be the case with yours...?

A little persuasive tap would sort it out.

Yep mate has to be the drain valve at the bottom, they come from the shop with the valve open.

You can see the little tap valve in the pic you have provided.

Check the air intake filter for correct fitment/blockage. Went to use my step dads the other day and couldn't work out why it was taking so long to fill, a wasp had built a mud nest in the intake tube.
