  • Techni ice Esky

Does anyone have any comments on these eskies and the ice packs that they sell, or does anyone have any recommendations around what type of esky they use for camping, how big is it and would it suit a family of 4.

Going away in Jan and just trying to work out a esky size to buy for about a 2 week trip. I will also have access to a Engel fridge but I think it is only about 25+ litres in size and wont be able to run it all the time as we will be camping in one spot for about a week.

I own a 60 litre Techni Ice esky and must admit they are a good quality product. Two bags of ice usually last about 4 days with the lid open every now and then. Complimenting the ice bags with a large bit of ice (ice cream container sized ice block) and it will last so much longer. Remember to drain water out of the esky 2 times a day (morning and evening). More than enough for a family of 4, usually use it for drinks and food for 4-6 blokes.

As for the ice packs, don't bother, I ended up throwing mine in the bin. They are hopeless!

Thanks for your advise, may change my mind then on the ice packs as I was thinking to buy extra's but may not be worth it.

I have the Compact 12L, Classic 40L and the Classic 60L, also got some of the ice packs (can't rememer how many) - but i must say that i've never used them...
The cooler boxes I use frequently for all occassions, and they have never let me down!!!!

Very happy. Will second the suggestion for emptying the water regularly, and that they do a fantasic job of keeping things cold for days...

Yep as others have said, best to freeze ice cream container or those 3lt milk bottles. I found those ice sheets not very good at all.
I sold my ice box as it was too big &heavy for our needs but yes they are good quality.

I have an 80ltr plus the Engel, and this combination works very well for extended stays, just top up the techni every couple of days with fresh ice..
Meat etc goes in the engel, and drinks, milk, butter etc in the Techni.

The sheets are next to useless. But the Eskies are as good as you will get and good value.

yeah another happy customer here I got the 200,60 and 12lt pack for $360 delivered to home but I think they may have gone up since then as it was a few years ago. Also agree with the other guys that the ice packs are a waste of time it would be good if you could say keep them and give me so money off the esky

                  Re: Techni ice Esky

I've got a Techni Ice and a Tropical Ice box that I use together when away. The Tropical far out performs the Techni Ice box. Sure the Techni Ice is cheaper, but you get what you pay for. As for the ice sheets, they just go slimy and get in the way once they thaw out. Which ever one you buy though, make sure you put a wet towel on top of the contents then close the lid. Helps stop the heat getting in and the cold out when you open it.
                  Cheers
