  • Lightbulb replacement going horribly wrong - RESOLVED

    Out of all the mods that I've done on my rig I'm finding this one the most difficult: somehow I have managed to lose my replacement globe into the headlight assembly after 2 hours worth of trying to re-install the bugger - severe case of fat fingers and being on the sun all day doing gardening might be the contributing factor here. Searched the forum but to no avail.

    Does anyone know how to remove the headlight assembly from a 120 series so I can retrieve my globe? I have an ARB Delux bar installed.

    MOD: You may want to transfer this to "Electrical (120 Series)" were I should have placed it to start off with.

    Re: Pulling my hair: Lightbulb replacement going horribly wrong!

    Got it:
    * Removed bullbar side bash plate,
    * Un-did retaining screw,
    * Removed radiator shroud,
    * Un-did screw next to wheel arch and two next to radiator,
    * Removed parking light adapter (this required a small blade head screwdriver to disengage plug,
    * Remove assmbley; a bit more force is required at the screw bit next to the wheel arch as its glued

    Replacement light was easily removed and installed.

    In all seriousness, removing the headlight assembly was easier than installing the single bulb. Probably need a reality check on this peoples as installing the replacement globe shouldn't be this hard!

        Re: Pulling my hair: Lightbulb replacement going horribly wrong!

        I've done that before. Happened one of my first light bulb changes and luckily was the side without the battery and I didn't have the dual system yet.

        I ended up getting it out with a coat hanger to turn it around so the pins on the bulb were facing back towards the plug hole, and then used a bit of wire with a hook folded on the end of it to catch one of the tiny holes in the pins on the bulb and drag it back up to the hole.

        Drove me freaking insane but got there. I've been overly cautious since! You don't want to make that mistake twice!

          I bought the IPF Fatboys close to 2 years ago but never actually installed them. Now that one one of the stock headlights blew I thought I'd actually use them.

          I installed the second light wise ease, the way it should be done:
          * remove headlight adapter,
          * remove large headlight gromit,
          * unlock retaining spring/latch,
          * remove light,
          * install new light,
          * lock retaining spring,
          * install grommit,
          * re-attached headlight adapter,
          * test!

          Looking at it now I cannot beleive how I stuffed this one up (I'll put it to lack of experience).

            Glad I'm not the only one! The coat hanger experience would have been interesting.
