    Re: 4x4 rage?

I'd say this is just a reflection of society and motorists in general - it's not specific to 4x4's, trucks, buses or motorcycles - EVERY type of car driver is guilty of it - including 4x4's.

If I'm completely honest here, I'd have to say that I've found 4x4 drivers the worst.

Can't say I've had anything different to when I drove a modified commodore really, except for tailgating.
For some reason a 4wd in the right hand lane of a freeway (doing 100 in a 100 zone) isn't acceptable!

        Re: 4x4 rage?

I have never noticed any rage from other drivers. But when my Dad was with me once, he commented that people seemed more inclined to give way to me. "I did have right of way" I commented, and he said "Yeah, but many people disregard that"

Andrew I have to agree the general public has no understanding of large truck handling and breaking. Some truckies are their own worst enemy though. The laws of physics can be a hard teacher sometimes!

I have done a lot of driving and had the odd disagreement with other road users (did anyone say two abreast cyclists!) But I do try and imagine it's a friend in the other car otherwise you start taking yourself too seriously and where do you stop ?

You no longer have the safe braking distance that you left and are forced to stand on the brakes. Now if you are unable to stop, and rear end the vehicle in front who is at fault? you are.

So sometimes another car getting in front of you could literaly be a matter of life or death. If I am in a 68 tonne truck and they are in a Hyundai i know whos death it would be.

He who was behind is not always found to be at fault. I know a case where a sedan left good space whilst following a truck. A P plater hatch jumped in between them just as the truck started to slow for a turn. The hatch hit the brakes, but the sedan couldn't stop quick enough due to poor brakes, and cleaned up the hatch. The hatch was found at fault, and the lucky sedan owner was paid out having only 3rd party.

I try to take it easy on the roads, physically and mentally, otherwise I'd get worked up and my steel bullbar will................... !

                Re: 4x4 rage?

Yes its not really worth getting too upset by the people on our roads that don't understand or dont care. In my youth i used to go Motorbike riding with my brother in law, anyone that cut him off; he would just ride past and smash their rear view mirror  I on the other hand usually find that keeping your mouth shut is a good policy.

Anyway put my truckies hat back on, when you are touring in the Prado and you are tooling along at 80 or 90 ks maybe towing the van or CT and you see a truck coming up behind you. Switch to chanel 40, call him up and let him know that when he is ready to pass; you will back off and make sure he gets around safely. I gaurantee that you will instantly become that truckies best friend, you feel better, he feels better, all the other truckies listening feel better and all it costs you is about 5 seconds longer on your trip.

If we could all travel with this attitude towards everyone all the time road rage would cease to be a term we use, wishful thinking though

                Cheers Andrew

That I hadn't thought of before - and yet it makes so much sense, i wonder why i hadn't thought of it already... Be keeping it in mind...
