Thank Guys,
I have been in Townsville for nearly 29 years now and have never experienced anything like what they are saying is going to happen tonight. It certainly is a huge storm. we'll be in the bathroom with our water and food & safety gear along with a couple of mattresses (if it gets that bad here). But our thoughts & prayers will be for the folk north of us, particularly Innisfail & surrounds.
Hope the Prado gets through it all ok, but it is replaceable.

Speak with you all, hopefully in a few days.

Thanks all, it should get pretty wild and wooly here tonight as the sun goes down and I got zero sleep last night too. It is starting to look like an impact around Tully/Cardwell which should influence Townsville more unfortunately, but it's so big that probably does not matter at this stage. Might be having barbies for a few days till the power comes back on, it's sure to go off as the winds come up. I've lived in Cairns since 1971 and this looks like the biggest for me. Looking at sheltering in the cars inside the carport if the roof comes off, hey at least its another use for a Prado.

Keep safe all, dont take any un-nessesary risks.
The evacuees from Cairns Base Hospital have been arriving in SEQ main hospitals, and even some rural hospitals, I do know that they have been going to the Royal, PA, Logan and even to Beaudesert hospitals.
All these hospitals are on code Brown (external disaster), none of them are allowed to go on bypass, and they need to find extra beds for more people that will come from FNQ.
If you live in SEQ and intend to go to one of the hospitals because you have a minor injury, forget it, see your local GP instead, you will be waiting for extremely long hours before you will be seen to.

Fortunately my son David, who lives in Cairns, is in PNG for the week and luckily Melissa his wife and our Grandson Lucas took the opportunity to visit us on The Gold Coast for a week - excellent timing. They are all safe but the house in Whitworth is at the mercy of the cyclone.
My thoughts and prayers are with all FNQ PPs. Take no risks, stay safe and for goodness sake let us know if you need help afterwards.

Well its 7pm and getting wild..
The storm has taken a more wnw track in the last 2 hours and puts the eye directly over Innisfail.
Cairns is in line with some serious action and our friends in Townsville will now be spared the worst..

time to batten down....

I'm getting lots and lots of questions from the boys on the rig here - mostly "Is it going to hit you? Your close to that aren't you? :shock: :shock:
