  • Toyota 2003 Prado windscreen jet issues.

    Hello,

    I live in Nairobi, Kenya.

I purchased a used 2003 Toyota Prado that has been imported from Japan.

Everything is in Japanese including the owner's manual.

The tubes that connect the windscreen tank to the jets have come loose.

I think I must remove the black under-bonnet thing to reattach.

What is the quickest and simplest way to do this without damaging the black circular attachments?

    Thanks,

No real way to do this quickly or easily, and as a general rule - you're likely to break one or two in the process.

Unsure what the part number is, but there are a number of good threads on PP already which cover replacing the standard ones with Hilux washer jets. And there should be some information in there about how to remove them. Try this one, http://www.pradopoint.com/viewtopic....st=0&sk=t&sd=a, use the search feature to find others.

Are you certain that the hoses have come off? Do you have water coming out from under the black fabric where it shouldn't? Theres a chance that the water nossles my be clogged and need a clean out - try using a thin piece of wire and to clear them out.

      Hi jmichaels
If you follow the link that Matty has posted above you will find that the nozzles can be removed carefully from the top side of the bonnet with a large cable tie. You may be able to see the rubber tube through the mounting hole and pick it out with pointy pliers or similar tool.
Pull the tube through and test the washer pump without the nozzle on the tube.
If you are at this stage with a good result from the pump, Do yourself a favor and fit some Hilux washer jets. Hilux jets spray more water over a larger area compared to the Prado Squirters.
      Good Luck

        Hi Matty & Loz,

Thanks for your feedback. I purchased the car from a used car dealer and there is no way I am going back there for help. They removed a sticker on the inside of my windshield with gasoline and damaged the colour of the dashboard.

When I attempt to engage the windshield wipers with fluid, nothing comes out of them. I open the hood(bonnet) and water is coming out of the black tubing.

I will take your advice on cleaning them out and let you know what happens.

Tried clicking on the link you provided. I am having a hard time finding the detailed post everyone in the comments is raving about.

        Thanks,

          Troy,

          Thank you for your comments.

I am interested in knowing the details of how to remove the nozzles from the top with a cable tie. I have a cable tie but was not able to find the detailed post by following the link Matty provided. I read all the comments...and everyone raved about the process. I must be blind or something.

          Cheers,

              Ok.

I took the advice of Matty and Troy.

I tried to clean out the jets with a thin wire. They still didn't work.

Using the plastic tie trick, I popped them off the hood.

The driver's side jet came right out as the hose is disintegrated. There are holes in the tubing.

The passenger's side is still attached. I assume it isn't working due to the lack of pressure.

1.What are my options at this point?
2.Do I need to remove the black, sound-proof cover to replace the tubing?
3.Are the driver's side and passenger's side connected to each other or are they separate?

              That is all for now.

              Thanks.

                Hi jmichaels
Well done on the removal with the zippy tie. Unfortunately it sounds like you need to go further to repair the problem. From memory others may have listed part numbers for the plastic clips that hold the sound deadening to the underside of the bonnet in the early pages of the Hilux windscreen washer upgrade thread. You could pick some of these up from your Toyota parts supplier before removing only the bottom few to allow access to the buggered tubing. Tubing should be available from auto stores or rubber suppliers and at a premium from Toyota of course.
                Good luck
