  • Wandin 4X4 show

Although I am a Prado driver, I have been a member of the Victorian Landrover Club for a long time now. I volunteered to help out this morning by picking up a large VMS sign and towing it up to the Land Rover 4WD show at Wandin.

Before I left I decided to leave a parting message which I thought you might like. (Doubt they did).

    Thanks,

    Adam

Cool - except I think you've got a redundant apostrophe there.
( unless your Prado has a rule about something ? )
      We'll be at the show.

        Re: Wandin 4X4 show

Never saw so many 4WDs in one place like that before. Lots of Patrols/LC/LR, and many standard 2WD cars as well.

It started raining around 12:30, so we left early. Many others had the same idea, so there was a long queue toward the exit.
The queue didn't move for a long time (1H?) it turned out some 4WDs and 2WDs couldn't get through the mud and had to be snatched/pushed out.
Heard on UHF there was a brand new Land Rover with four wheels spinning in the mud, giving a good show!

The organisers arranged a chicken run at the back to bypass the mud. That took care of the 2WDs/sedans and utes, but you could see all the hard-core tough-looking 4WDs patiently waiting for their challenge (the usual LC/Prado/Patrol/LR). I guess some of these probably wanted to leave early but were too embarrassed to take the short-cut. We had a chat to one of the organisers, who looked at our tyres and shook his head, saying he saw others with large mud tyres but still had problem with the mud!
When it was our turn, with low-range/center diff lock the Prado went through no prob. Just took me 30 minutes later to clean out the mud underneath the car.

There were a good mixture of displays at the show, with some "show-discounts", some were better than others. Some ARB discounts were a few dollars off RRP, and most others were close to discount price, so I didn't pick any thing up. There was a 11L Waeco fridge for $399 which was a good $100 off RRP. Couldn't justify to the wife a second fridge so I had to give it a miss! There was a good ARB demo of how to use the tyre repair kit, which was impressive.

I must say it was impressive to see the car park full of all sorts of 4wd. Mine is still on order so I arrived in an awd sedan as a passenger. Only got to see a small portion of what was on offer before the weather turned. Although I wanted to see much much more, we had a small 6mth old so tried to take off before the rush. What a joke

We ended up taking the "chicken" run described above after waiting for 30mins in the one spot. 2 cars and a van got stuck in mud in front of us and were going nowhere. Nothing a bit of momentum couldn't fix  The 25 yr old female driver of our car put the macho men in the other cars to shame :P as she easily got through the mud. I think the hungry rugrat screaming in the back played a big factor

It was a shame it rained though. Who would have picked these sort of conditions for mid-Feb :?: I am sure it would have been busier with finer weather. I will now have to go to the caravan, camping and touring show in March :P

I was coming in at the time of the big exodus - around lunchtime - it was chaos at the exit.

The organisers were doing a good job at trying to minimise the damage to the car parking paddock - in spite of a few idiots who just had to show off.

We left around 3-ish, and the carpark was a MESS! Best bit of the whole day..... The old 90 series motored through, past a nicely bogged English brand....
