  • Anyone use SSB AGM Deep Cycle Batteries?

Did some research on AGM batteries and found an Australian brand called SSB sold by All Purpose Batteries. I am particularly interested in their HVT 100Ah battery (http://www.allpurposebatteries.com.a...roducts_id=146) which is a dual purpose starting and auxiliary battery. The batteries are designed in Australia but manufactured in Korea. For what they are their pricing seems to be pretty good for an AGM and are built for long term reliability.

Wanted to see if anyone was using this brand of battery? Any experiences with regards to reliability and durability?

I bought this one as a second battery for the fridge.

Works fine. Note that I put it in the back of the car, NOT in the engine bay!

I was intending to use two SSB HVT N70ZZ batteries as a starting and auxiliary; they are categorised as dual purpose. Do you think that this battery would fit into the starting battery tray?

I wouldn't be using a deep cycle battery as your main starting battery - even if it has a CCA rating.
One would assume it's primarily intended as low constant current draw with occasional high amp cranking use.

Just checked specs this is what it says

"This battery is especially designed for the 4WD/camping market...solid automotive terminals which screw into the battery.Deep cycle capability with huge cranking power for emergency starting"
          Cheers, Wayne

Anyone know if the HVT-70D and HTV-70ZZDL can be mounted under the bonnet and survive the heat?

I was close to purchasing this model battery for my auxiliary, however, due to the concerns about heat in the engine bay I ended up going the Supercharge All rounder.

I've been running a SSB Dryfit auxiliary battery under the bonnet for 18 months had no dramas with it at all. It's the NVT-70ZZD 100 a/h one.

Any one care to update how their SSB is going?

They seem to be the best value battery around at the moment. $280 for 100ah, 780CCA and fill an aux battery tray

I'm running the 120ah 1000cca version, no issues so far at all. Just squeezes into the piranha N70 tray. Sub $300 here in Adelaide.

I'm running the same as OziOffroad - SSB - HVT86D - 130ah and 1000CCA - It's a big bugger at 32kg and I have installed it under the bonnet in a 90 series. Their warranty actually specifically covers installation under the bonnet. I paid just under $300 for it about a year ago and it has been faultless. I charge it with a 7 stage projecta charger about once a month to keep it maintained and I have the engel 38L fridge going in the back all the time. This is my 1st deep cycle battery so I don't have anything to compare it to but at this stage I would say they're awesome!

Have a read of their brochure here - http://www.superstart.com.au/Portals...e_Brochure.pdf

I bought mine from IBD on Marion rd in Adelaide http://www.independantbattery.com.au/contact/
They were really helpful and also gave me a sensational price on my battery charger - Projecta IC2500 for $250 inc gst - way better than any online price!

The longest trip away so far has been 2 weeks without a charge and no problems at all. I will need to replace my starter battery soon so will be looking at SSB to see what they have when the time comes
