What sort of problem in the dash did you come across from the roadrover

Mansour, that post was before I found that I could mount the Roadrover using the half panel that Toyota can supply. Once I found this out I went with the roadrover.

I think you probably have a different dash than we do here in Australia as with the standard dash it was not possible to mount the Roadrover. Now with the part from Toyota I was able to mount it properly.

DVD Stacker

Mav,

Just wondering if you have recieved your DVD stacker as yet. If so did it come with the CDC cable? I have been trying to source a Sanyo protocol CDC cable and they seem a bit hard to get hold of.

Yes I received it today and no it did not come with the cable even though the manual shows it but it must be an optional extra.

I think I will ask the people at American Boss if they are able to source one.

Just Ordered

Dear Mav

I've just ordered my roadrover

shall I ask for anything in particular just to nib any problems you guys might have encountred say - Shall I ask for the maps on SD card or on CD

I also ordered the reverse camera with looms

Proce all inclusive to Dubai 850.00 $US including the maps

Say ; didthe the radio frequencies functioned well or some tweeking was needed to make them work in Australia

I have had no problems at all with radio frequencies here using the roadrover.

We had problems with the latest Route 66 mapping software for Australia but that may not be a problem for you as you will obviously have a different map.

We have reverted to the older Route 66 software and it works very well, I was surprised that it managed to direct me along bush tracks on the Barrington Tops National Park trip we did yesterday. We are talking tracks that were pretty rough and ready things more akin to goat tracks.

That other GPS unit looks pretty good as well.

I've been emailing Roadrover with a view to ordering the roadrover unit. They are informing me now that they cannot laod oziexplorer onto the unit. In there words "3.I'm sorry we can't load OZI anymore because we have agreement with our distributor on this point,hope you can understand.". Is it worth ordering without oziexplorer??? What are the chances of being able to load oziexplorer on after it gets here???

The only reason I'm interested in this unit is coz it can also do OziExplorer !..Given that it can run Ozi..sinced the distributor has loaded it in the past ??

.it would be good to find out how to install it on the PC.. ie how to break out of the Roadrover startup and how/where to install it so it appears on the roadrover "Menu" screen ?

Once you know how to break out of the roadrover application you could then add goodies like email (with a 3G phone as a modem ) !!

I guess if they wont, they wont, but their agreement covers a particular hardware unit (the generic one, not the one for the prado) Obviously VMS has winged about it to them and got them to agree to not loading Ozi on to any of their units. It would be a pity if it was someone from here that spilled the beans to VMS about it.

Try pleading, and then don't mention anything about Ozi here if it works !!

Other than that there must be other solutions that work on CE for topigraphical maps. I know Fugawi does (USA product) and it is used in a lot of places around the world ( A friend used it for a while and said it was heaps better than Ozi

Yeah I got the same response about the roadrover and installing Oziexplorer. Also was told that the digital TV could not be bundled at this time cause there was an upgrade due mid Feb. They will however sell the unit and GPS software for 700USD!!!!
Also inquired about the plastic bit for the air con. to match the unit and was quoted $112. Feel like everyone is there to take advantage. :x

If I was still looking for a unit I think I would definitely be going for one of the Polaris units as they use the Sensis maps which on comparison to the Navteq maps are much better. Plus the Polaris units have the red light and speed camera data added to them.

After looking at the Polaris website the navigation software appears to be very good in what it enables you to do, I would not be surprised if it was TomTom 6 or Destinator that they are using.

The current pricing appears to be very good, I guess it depends on what they charge for installation.
