This GPS looks interesting - made especially for the Prado?

Good news for those of us with the Roadrover, I have now successfully incorporated Speed and Red Light cameras into the Route 66 software. I have tested the info and it works no problems at all. The data files may be lacking some of the latest camera installs but the majority of cameras will be there and it is better than no info at all.

If I was still looking for a unit I think I would definitely be going for one of the Polaris units as they use the Sensis maps which on comparison to the Navteq maps are much better. Plus the Polaris units have the red light and speed camera data added to them.

I am not sure but I have a hunch that they wont take oziexplorer software.

Roadrover & reverse camera

Hey Mav,

Just wondering if you connected a reverse camera to the Roadrover. I know the Roadrover has a wire coming from it for reverse but where does this connect to. Looking at the reverse cameras that you can get on ebay they only have a pos and neg wire along with a video wire. Can you shed any light on where these wires should all be connected to the roadrover. Also thanks for the red light / speed camera files, good work.

The reverse wire is to connect to somewhere which goes to 12 volts when you select reverse, like the reversing lights at the back (or other places)
That way when you select reverse the unit will automatically show you the picture without you having to do anything.
Other than that it is only video in from the camera

So the wire coming from the rear of the Roadrover will connect to the positive wire that becomes live when the vehicle is put into reverse. I just didn't want to connect this wire to a positive and blow the crap out of the unit. Still waiting for the Prado so my Roadrover and associated accessories are sitting in my cupboard at the moment. Getting very impatient and was told today that delivery of my vehicle will now be the end of April.

Hi Guys.

I would still be interested in Roadrover if I could figure out how to Install OZI (or similar). Its easily do-able with the right knowledge. I would imagine that a keyboard can be connected via USB to the front.. The question is how the dickins do you install "custom" apps.. Anyone a MICROSOFT guru out there with a Roadrover..

The other alternative is of course to buy a VMS unit.. But i like the integration of the new 2270TP unit !! and I dont like the price of the VMS !!!..Although it comes with Oziexplorer / red light map and school zones/POI etc etc etc

Is there any other unit that can do Off-road navigation ?? Eclipse AVN6000/Polaris/Pioneer ??? whatever ?

Well I just got off the phone with Route 66 support and it is as I thought that we cannot add icon graphics for the speed camera files, we can only utilise what comes with Route 66. Anyway Route 66 attaches a generic POI icon to the camera file so I guess that is better than nothing.

I shall recieve my unit next week , roadrover was shut down due to the chinese new year

Are you satisfied with the Unit so far ?

I have a few questions ;

1- Where can I find detailed installation guide ( I will take it to a professional to do it , but I need to set with him and compare his work)

2- I saw that Tim's (Bitdist) unit is bashed on top and Mav's unit is a bit recessed inwards is that's due to inperfect fit by the unit or just the installation can do the trick of perfect fit

3- I ordered the Reverse camera and looms from them and I shall let you know how it goes

4- Do you need to change anything to the original wiring of the car or it's just plug and play (I know that for the reverse camera I shall run a new cable through the door cells -near the scuff plates-

Thanks guys and sorry for any repetitive questions , it just the bloody Toyota dealer here in Dubai rejected to fix it at all -so I have to do it outside which are questionable in fix quality-

He is saying that insatLLING Any non-toyota unit this will cancell the elctrical warranty and might malufunction the car totally -Nice :twisted: you buy a Land Cruiser Which can Whack the worst terrain on earth and when you put a different sterio with screen the car will stop :twisted: very funny -

Are you satisfied with the Unit so far ? I am 90% satisfied, if it ran Tom Tom software for satnav I would be 100% satisfied.

Some wires I have no idea what to do with them but I do think one of them is for the antenna amp for the on glass radio antenna.

Nothing wrong with the fit of my unit Mansour, the reason it looks a little out on the top corners is because in my haste to get it in and running I left out the two screws which secure the top flush with the temp panel.

Besides if something were to go wrong you could just swap it out with your current Toyota player and they are none the wiser.

Hope all is now going well for you and your family. Just on the subject of the Roadrover, I haven't installed mine as yet as I am still waiting on the delivery of my Prado (getting very impatient). In relation to the wire that comes from the rear of the Roadrover unit for the 'reverse' camera, does this get connected to a positive wire that becomes live when the vehicle is put into reverse?

Did you have to install an exrtra amplifier with the roadrover or the sound quality is OK with the standard toyota equipment

Hi Mansour,

No I found the audio output quite sufficient for my needs, unless you want to go full on boom box then I would not bother with another amp. I personally find the doof doof cars annoying as hell when they pull up alongside me I don't know how they can stand being inside the car to be honest.

Then again I guess I am an old fart now. :lol:

Noisy Cars

To be honest Mav I do like the standrad sound as It is , if the unit does the job I am more than Happy

The only noisy car I liked the other day was Lambo. Gaiardo Super Ligara being chased by a 911 Turbo , I was doing 160 KM/HR and couldn't see the color of the Lambo. I still can hear the engines even with my Standard Toyo Playing ops:

Sorry Higgsee I somehow missed your post.

I believe you are correct that the wire marked reverse is the one that connects to the positive wire that becomes live when reverse is selected.

Thanks for asking about my family, Hunter is doing a lot better these days and we are starting to settle down again back in Alice.
