    Hi Andrew,
I mean the Hema R1 region. You get the east coast but that includes, Tasmainia, Gippsland, Vic High Country, SE NSW, Outback NSW, Mid NSW, Northern NSW. In QLD it really is only Laminton and the top of the NSW map, Fraser, Cairns and Lakeview is fine detail. Intersting the Cape York is not on the Qld map but the Northern Aus maps.
I just feel SEQ is somewhat mising. ie. where is great snady nation park for instance. Maybe I am missing osmehting but I would like the optin just to get the QLD maps for example in high res.

I hear you with the tablet choice. Thats why I got the Nexus 7 ( I prefer it to the ipad as it is open , better google implementation and at half the price of the apple option) . What is also good is you can download the google maps for when you are offline with no 3G signal and it works like a charm)
But motion X and Mud maps are currently not on the Android platform. But with Memory Map using the Hema maps, (ozi explorer as backup) and google maps, it does everything I need it to do now.
Even so, I still think 4wd Hema app on the ipad for about $100 on discounted is the best value option there at the moment, if you wnat to use an iPad.
    Cheers
    Robert

We have both, started with the VMS (now Mudmaps) and added the Hema more recently. Both have their strong and weak points, the Hema general maps seem better and more detailed, the Mudmap topo maps seems better.

I actually think the recent upgrade when VMS became Mudmaps was a step backwards, more often than not we go to the Hema now, if I had to choose one I would probably go Hema.

              - First off you need the PC version of MemoryMap (free download). You do though need to purchase a licence for the "Import 3rd Party Maps" feature for $50 http://memory-map.com.au/mapping-sof...-software.html

              - DeMapper.exe is next. This will convert the image file associated with an oziexplorer map into a PNG file. ie: It will convert your ozfx2 and some ozfx3 files into PNG files. Some of the later ozfx3 format files are encoded, and cannot be converted.

              - DRGMapCal232 follows. This converts the ozi .map file into a .jpr file. Map files are the ozi calibration files, and .jpr is a calibration format memorymap can understand/import. Again, there can be issues converting the files. DRGMapCal does not recognise the datum GDA94. If you have any map files using this datum you'll need to use the Oziexplorer PC version to change the datum to WGS84 and save the updated .map file first.

There is some costs with the above, but I can't remember which one I had to pay for, or how much. Wasn't too expensive though.

              - Lastly you need to setup the PC version of MemoryMap and import the maps to convert them. Once you've licenced the 'import' feature, display the 'map list' window, and click on 'Refresh Map List'. The window shown should have a section at the very bottom for the 'folder containing converted maps'. Set this to your prefered directory. All imported/converted maps will be saved in this location. Now add the folder that contains your jpr/png files for the maps you wish to import into the ist of map folders. Make sure you tick the 'load all maps now' option, and click on 'OK'. This will import the maps you have defined in the jpr/png files, convert them, and save the converted results in memorymap format (qct) in the specified folder. When done, remove the folder containing the jpr/png files from the map file folder list - so it no longer reads from there.

The qct files can now be loded into memorymap on your PC, iPhone, iPad, etc.

A fair bit of pain, but like you I had many files in oziexplorer format that I wanted to convert. I hope the info helps...........

              John
Thanks for the step by step John

I was looking at ipad off-road Apps Mud & Hema, however already have bought the Hema Ozi maps and wanted to reuse them, after following your steps I managed to get all my maps Desert Tracks etc onto Memory Maps even the Hema overview map works and I can drill in,

spent a few hours getting it going but happy at the result, didn't see the point in repurchasing the same maps on the same application MM, just because of a map format,

              Cheers AndyB

Memory map only comes with one Aus Map. You can download a 10 day trial on any of the hema maps before buying. I downloaded the Eastern Australia one the other day and used that on a recent trip ans worked well.
If you are to buy the map it is $39
Well Robert, Ive decided I will follow your lead on this one.
I have stolen my daughters Galaxy Tablet and I will have a crack at installing Oziexplorer & Memorymap.
Weve got Fraser Island in July & Birdsville races in Sep so I need to do something about navigation.
I reckon for the price of a few maps I simply couldnt go wrong!

Ok well getting Oziexplorer was easy... now for the bits that cost some dollars.

Where does everyone buy their maps from? Ive simply got no idea on this!

Obviously Hema do maps but are there any other options for different views or do I just slip the Hema maps into a different App for a different perspective?

                    Cheers Drew.

                      Drew,
Memory Map which you can download for free, gives you a whole of Aus map free, then you can download certain Hema regions as per above. You get 10 days to try before it locks the map you have been trying, then to use it again on that map you have to pay for that region.

another to try is Androzic. You can download it for free at the google play store. You can use Ozi maps with it. This is what I used at Fraser on the most recent trip to try it.

I believe the native Hema App for Android with all the maps will be a good option but it is not released yet. Hema told me soon at the recent 4wd show here.

                      Cheers

Thanks again Robert, but yes i have some further questions!
Maybe I should start calling you Coach?
Anyways this is where Im at.
Memorymaps, Androzic & Oziexplorer apps are all installed on the Galaxy.
I am now trying to get some maps into a folder to use amongst the 3 programmes
I first downloaded memorymaps for their website but 'Cannot open file' appeared each time I went open it... that one got deleted.
I then downloaded it from goole play. This time it opened and self installed perfectly.
So I then went foward & downloaded the qld topo map for the 10 day trial from the memorymaps site.
And again the file is telling me 'cannot open file'.

Is this simply because it wont open on Android?

So im thinking Im doing something wrong or there may be aproblem with the memorymaps website.
Did you experience this when starting up?
Also did you pay for any apps for this to work correctly or are u using the free ones?

Im not worrying about getting all 3 programmes working at this point, its a tad confusing.

Any further help on this would great.
                        Thanks heaps.

From an email conversation with Robert from HEMA it seems they are only releasing maps in the newer versions of the OziExplorer file format - so they won't work with Androzic. My dad found this when he bought a HEMA dvd the other day - some maps worked, some didn't. Some that appeared to be OZF2 (and thus should work with Androzic) still didn't work because there was something funny going on with the conversion. HEMA also aren't releasing the ECW files any more - so that option for map conversion has gone.

So... is it possible to get new Australian maps for Androzic? I don't think all of the new HEMA ones will work and going forward that is likely to get worse.

I was looking for the NSW 1:25k topo maps. It seems the options are the Festy ones with Androzic/OziExplorer (which have to be individually downloaded and are quite old) or to buy them via MemoryMap and get the 2012 version as a seamless map. On that basis alone it seems to me that Memory Map might be a better option - especially because other OziExplorer maps can be converted to Memory Map format (with a little stuffing around, see above).

Are there any downsides to the Memory Map Android app? From a quick play the UI seems to be a lot cleaner - OziExplorer has always seemed like a bit of a dogs breakfast. Is the route planning/following stuff comparable?

Thanks Robert and apologies for not contacting you as you requested.
I found the root of my problem with installing all of these aps and maps.
It all came down to memory on the Galaxy tablet.
It appears that a 8 gig tablet has over 4.5 gig used up in pre stored crap from samsung.
The remaning 3.5 gig isnt really fully usable either.
I found with the aps and the maps the memory was choka block full and the tablet simply couldnt work as needed.
I am in the process of getting a 32 gig tablet to bypass this problem.
The strange thing was that i also had a 8 gig sd card as extra memory installed but that card only seems to hold pics and vids.
Very frustrating to say the least.

What size is the memory in your tablet robert?
