  • Navlink 7" dbl DIN GPS DVD etc... fleabay

    Morning all,

Been looking at replacing the stock toyo unit for a GPS ++++ following the threads of everyone, McBain, Chippy Mav etc... and I found this one from NavLink which looks good. Looks like they go for less than $500

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Car-Navigation-S ... dZViewItem

Loaded with Whereis and iGo, so I guess can do everything needed for a GPS (like Chippys 4.3"). OziExplorer should work too. It should be a direct bolt in with the Echo side trim pieces.

Can anyone see anything dodgy that I've missed ?

Also can't see if it is possible to connect an iPod up to any of these units which allows control through the head unit (RCA connection would be easy).

I'd appreciate reviews if possible as I think this might be a good way to get a reversing camera in mum's truck with some significant extras for not much more

    Thanks,
    Ben

I would never buy from any Ebay seller that does "private bid" auctions. You can be "guaranteed" that they will be false bidding against you to bump the price up to what they really need to sell it for!

I don't think you can say "guaranteed", it's a matter of doing your homework and bidding the price you're happy with. I've bid on many "private bid" auctions and got a bargain.

        Hi Ben
I was very tempted to bid for one of these - it just sounded a bit too good to be true. I hope for your sake it is as good as advertised. Just one thing though - I sent an email to the seller regarding the Prado steering wheel controls. Here's the reply:

        Dear rambuss01,
        Hi
This unit does not have steering wheel controls for radio/CD.
        Regards
        - better-store

Good luck, keep us posted on what it's like (if you go ahead)
        Cheers
        Russ
PS I decided to go for the Polaris - waiting for delivery hopefully tomorrow.

Thanks for the tip re steering wheel, however I don't have those controls currently anyway. Still not sure what I'll do as there are so many on the market.

Which Polaris did you get and where from ?

After some discussion with the guy at Poron Aust http://www.polarisrearvision.com.au who suggested that the Caska CA3126 (that is designed for Prados) would not fit properly and had an external GPS unit (sounded a bit suss to me!), I settled on the Caska CA 3119 (PID 3119 in their catalogue). This is listed as suitable for a number of Toyota models. It's a generic unit, but should do the job. I'm waiting for it to arrive today or monday and will fit it next Tuesday.
            Cheers

Re: Navlink 7" dbl DIN GPS DVD etc... fleabay

I've just bought a 2001 Prado with one of these units installed, including the reversing camera.
The Navlink wasn't working at time of purchase (not a big deal)- I've just removed it from the dash, and there are no ID codes anywhere, which leads me to believe that they may well be a throw-away unit.
The buttons on the front panel are well worn, so it must have had a reasonable service life.
Would be pleased to hear from anyone with experience of these- not sure whether to replace it with a conventional stereo unit and separate Sat-nav unit, or buy the same/similar unit.
              Cheers,
              Adam.
