  • Installing Ozi Explorer On A Navman S50

    I have a Navman S50 GPS and was wondering if I can install a program such as Ozi Explorer or such off road mapping program on it.
    If it can be done, where do I start and how difficult is it?
    The Navman has an SD slot on it so I imagine I would have to download the program on my pc and then load it onto the card but other than that I'm no computer geek.

    cheers

    Dobbo,
    I have seen posts on various forums regarding this so I am pretty sure it can be done. Google will probably be your best best there. Have a look here too: http://navmanunlocked.wikispaces.com/Unlock

    Don't forget to back everything up.

    Cheers

      I managed to unlock my S50 and it works fine.

      While on the subject of Navman, don't ever attempt to hardwire it.

      As we know the vehicle is 12 volt.

      The cig lighter sockets are 12 volt.

      The navman is 5 volt.

      Seems the navman socket is also a small transformer, out-putting voltage at 5.

      Use a direct 12 volt and you cook your Navman. ops:

        I have unlocked my Navman S50 by following the steps shown on the link above, works like a treat.
        I now have street navigation with the Navman ST and bush navigation with OziExplorer CE.
        You just need to wack in an SD card into the Navman so you can upload OziExplorer CE and maps.

        Guess I have the budget version of Hema Navigator.

        S50 = $300 bucks
        OziCE = $50

        go figure.....

          Um, then add the Hema maps for $170ish

          Still a good price and simillar to the fleabay units in pricing.

            The HEMA Topo 1:250k maps have better colours IMHO than the GA maps, but take up heaps more space on a SD card
            thanks to them scanning all the legends in.

              Sucessfully unlocked my S45, got a 4gb SD card now I am set.
              Time to find some maps to put on it.

              How does this work, are the ozi explorer maps fixed or does the GPS actually move over the map. Never scene one is use so I would not know.
              What else do I need for a semi decent setup ?

                Goods work Golly.

                The Moving Maps mode of OziCE will display part of the current map, depending upon zoom. In the center of the screen is your current position along with the icon you choose to show where you are. I use the arrow as it also gives you direction. The following image is an example although the map is poor as it gives no detail:

                So now all you need are some decent maps. The GA website is great but you will need to import into Ozi (full version) to create the .map file and then you will want to convert from ECW to the Ozi format. For this you will need Img2Ozf. You can use maps in non ECW format but this can slow performance down.

                How did you have your S45 configured to be able to select between Navman ST and OziCE?

                  Still have to customise the desktop on it so will see how I go. If anyone has done this, let us know so I can fumble my way through it.
