  • Ozi Explorer Tutorial

    Edit - 19Apr09
    Okay, at this stage 35 yays to 1 nay, I'm not going to bother running the poll down to the last 2 days, I'm happy to start as of now. I will start a new post for the tutorial, I'm sure the Mods will move it around to keep the forum tidy if need be.

    *****************

    Ladies & lads;

    This is just a quick poll to see if there is any interest in a basic ozi explorer tutorial to be run on this site. The aim of course is assist those PP's who may be running or thinking about running the program but have little or no idea on what to do.

    I'm no expert at it and I'm not by any means associated with the company but I have a keen interest in navigation and in particular what the program has to offer.

    I anticipate that to keep it simple, I would only focus on the PC version and will probably approach the subjects of, obtaining and setting up maps for ozi, configuring ozi, uploading and downloading info from your gps to ozi, creating tracks and routes and also explore some of the utilities in existence and how to make them work for you. If there seems to be a real genuine interest then I would be keen to also expand and give a tutorial on custom map making for ozi and play with a few of the other things that are in the program.

    I'll let the poll run for 3 or so weeks and if there are enough people keen, then with the kind permission of the mod's, I'll kick it off.

          Hey Rainman, to answer your question, yes and no!

          No to the particular version, I intend only to focus on the standard PC version, not the development version which is what is referred to in the hyperlink
          Yes I want the same aim - to assist others with Ozi that may be struggling
          But no to how it has been set out, I only intend to a have a basic step by step that can be easily read and followed by others, whilst there will be some screen shots, I'm not in the position to have fancily set out html files, I will only be operating from within the parameters and constraints of this forum itself.

                  Great idea James. I know OZI CE fairly well, but not the PC Version. That map merged with the Google Earth shot you sent me was excellent, I would like to learn more.

                            Re: Ozi Explorer Tutorial

                            I use Ozi on a regular basis, both the Desktop and CE versions, but I think we can all leran more about how to use it, or at least how others use it. I think it would be great to see a Prado Point flavoured OziExplorer tutorial aimed more so at the type of usage that the majority of the members of this site would benefit from.

                            I would sugest that in the tutorial you mention the version number that you have based this on. The base functionality is very unlikley to change from one to the next but some specific functionality may change or the layout of various windows and menus.

                            And finally I'm sure that the Mods will not have issue with informative knowledge that benefits both the users and the forum.

                            Go for it!
