GPS dropping out at the same location

The other day I had to drive across Perth a couple of times from one location to the another. During the trip I had my gps on and noticed that it lost signal in exactly the same location on both occassions. A couple of kilometres down the road it started working again around the same location. I guess I just drove through a dead spot?

Understandable if you drove through a very wooded area, valley, cutting, street with tall buildings one both sides or similar.
If you had a good view of the sky when it dropped out, then it's a bit of a mystery.
Could have been some local interference blocking the satellite signal. You weren't driving past a defence transmitting station or something ?

That could be it I guess, in Perth TV channels 7, 9 and 10 are all located next to each other, and I was scarecly half a kilometre from there when I lost the signal. Funnily enough though I dont remember losing the signal on the way back (I did the same stretch three times).

Also i have been having signal drop out where i normally get coverage, its happened over the last week, could it be the head unit or something to do with the satellites, im in open country NSW . Randy

Dropped out down Morley Drive between Flinders Street and didnt pick up a signal again until I passed over the Alexander Drive intersection. Happened in the same location twice on the same day, but as I said I dont remember it dropping out when I was heading up Morley Drive in the opposited direction.

I dont remember it dropping out when I was heading up Morley Drive in the opposited direction.

Where is your GPS antenna mounted? If it is on the front dash, it will 'see' different satellites depending on the direction the car faces.

Could explain it.

Could be a variety fo reasons.

Couple of months ago I ordered one of those autoroute unit on fleabay and works surprising well - 7inch screen !

I lost signal a couple of times earlier this week along marmion ave/ west coast hwy on monday, hate these city surburban roads :x

Not good when driving in area you don't really know, suspect it was due to observation city, odd thing is used it out Karnet way and worked 100% no drop out at all.

Just gotta modify it for Topo maps - devious thoughts any tips chippy ?

slightly off topic but I have the Polaris unit and every time I wanted a place in Morley, I couldn't get it to come up. I had to type MOR & then scroll through every one until I found Morley (there's a lot). Anyway, emailed Poron, they said send the card over which I did. They confirmed the problem & have provided me with the latest update working for no extra charge. Bloody good service.

This can happen for a couple of reasons:
Interference from other RF signals upsets the gps receiver (esp driving under road bridges with a lot of cables conduited with them)
Angle of aerial to satellites
Signal strength
