  • Robbo's build

    Hi All

Decided it was time time to add a bit of a build of my 05 Petrol Prado.

I bought this car in Oct 09 with 22000k's and it was stock standard. Since then I have add:

    Tint
    Reverse Camera
    ARB Bull Bar
    IPF Lights
    9000 Warn Winch
    Dyneema Winch Rope
    2" OME lift
    Dual Battery Set up
    Home made Cargo barrier
    BFG AT
    Redarc low coolant alarm
    Hawse Fairlead

    Future Mods

    Snorkel
    front and rear lockers
    Draws and fridge slide

After spending about 6 months trying to find the right Prado for the right price, I had wanted a D4D but at the time I couldn't justify to extra cost of buying a second hand D4D over second hand petrol (one dealer even tried selling me a second hand D4D for more then a new one would have cost). Anyway this one was exactly what I was after Low K's and never been offroad.

The first Mods came about a week after purchase which was the reverse camera and tinting. The reverse camera is in the window mounted mirror,I would not go this type again as it seems to be a lot bigger than the standard Prado one and gets in the road, it's also a bit dark to use as a mirror at night.

I aslo bought a Flyer dual battery set up, which was OK but has since been removed and is used in the camper when not on the charge.

So next I'm in ARB getting a quote on Bar Work and Lights. This was not as easy as it sounds as I just couldn't decide whether to color code the bar or not, I must have changed my mind 100 times and in the end changed it twice while booking her in. Best decission I have made, am very happy with the look and it still looks great a year and a bit on. The 9000 Warn winch is getting on a bit(came off my brother's Old 80) I had to pull it apart clean and regrease, but has been used twice since, worked well both times.

Next I got some dyneema rope and a hawse fairlead off the net. The only issue is the heat resistant material on the rope is to short and I have notice that the rope has been affected where it's not protected and touches the drum.

With some great help fitted the home made rear cargo barrier, I don't have any photos of it fitted but think it looks as good as the standard toyota verson.

Geeze Robbo, quite a clan there. Hope the cargo barrier is strong enough to keep them all in the third row lol. Seriously great job

I had the Sindwinder dual battery setup for a while but decided I needed more space in the back so that is now in the camper and I have installed a dual battery setup with the Redarc Smartstart dual battery isolator. I have a green LED in the dash to let me know when the batteries are connected and a switch so I can connect mannualy. Plug in the back for the fridge and one at the tow bar for the trailer's battery.

impressive cargo barrier, is that to keep the "helpers" in the cargo bay or the cargo from invading there 2nd row? ahaha
Keep it coming so we can all get more ideas, not that there is a shortage of ways to spend your money one here

OK so now I've added a Redarc Low coolant alarm, the red LED lights and the alarm sounds when the car is first started. From then if the sensor (yelow arrow) detects low coolant for less then 3 seconds the LED will flash, any more and the alarm sounds aswell. I got this for about $150 bucks, I think it's a must as a friend found out on his most recent trip when serious damage was caused from a small radiator leak discovered only when the engine stopped.

Also added OME lift and BFG AT's. The lift has been on since Xmas and is great, now that it's fitted I think the front end was dangerous with all that weight (Bar, Winch, Battery). The tyres are the latest and have only been on 2 weeks. I found them by accident as I have been looking for BFG's since Feb-Mar without success, had all but given up, walked into a few place to get something different and bingo the 3 place said we have some BFG's, so on they went.

Just adding a few extra shots. Notice the Prado saving the Nissan, tried to convince the brother in law, there's just no talking sense into some people.

Funny you should say that as I never wanted a white one, it was one of my criteria when buying. But I just could not pass this car up at the time and now I love color and think all my future 4X4's will be white.
