Uninsurable it will not be, have cover for the 3" lift already with certificates. The kit is a bit of a mongrel system utilising the Toytec modified Bilsteins and Eibach springs. It involves changing out the upper control arms for the Light Racing type. Also takes care of CV angles by dropping the diff and relocating the sway bar. It'll be a good package once the correct spring rates are sorted, which the yanks are having a bit of a problem understanding right now. Nothing is unattainable if you're willing to accomplish it, the fact that the 150 was 15mm lower than the 120 from the factory was the main motivation for going higher with the lift. I just don't understand why they'd do this for the fuel savings, but I guess it appeals to folks who'll purchase the Prado purely for its people carrying capacity.

The lift will be a lot closer to 2.75" as that's about all I can afford to go with regards to clearance with my carport beams. The other solution was to ask BHP to lift my carport for me, but I reckon that would've been rejected politely, so I'm willing to settle for the 2.75" for now.

    Cheers,

    Chris.

Cheers Barry, its been an exhaustive exercise. Even upgrading from the old Surf was a hard decision to make, I'm glad I did though. What I wanted to create has been a culmination of everyone's ideas from this forum, from the practical to the modified. It's great having this resource here to pick and choose the best of everything from, I must say the missus isn't too keen on me spending as much time as I do here.

        Cheers,

        Chris.

What sort and size Fridge you got there Shamozzle? Is it an Engel Combi 57Litre? We only got our 150 a few weeks ago, but I've had Zero time to look and think about it. I had the 57L Combi in mind, but as yet haven't been able to get a gauge for exactly how much room it's going to take up in the back.

Also keen to know your thinking behind running your feed cable down the drivers side of the car, will be crossing that bridge shortly, and am wondering the pros and cons of each side, and the optimal route to run behind the plastic? What were your thoughts mate?

            G'day Tonner,

The fridge is the 57 combi and it fits neatly on the left hand side. It's nice to have a dedicated freezer for summer here in the Plbara, keeps the beers icy cold and helps with beer rotation. I ran the feed down the rhs of the car as it just seemed logical to do it that way. As you can see from earlier photos there is plenty of room to run the loom across the rear of the cargo area without risking any damage to it, even with the drawers installed. I figured I'd run a single feed to minimise the number of penetrations I needed to make in the firewall grommet, I have the supply feed and the control wiring for the winch solenoid box running through it. This leaves the lhs for other future cabling needs. It also is the most direct route from the auxiliary battery and reduces resistance/voltage drop by reducing the length of cable ran through the hot engine bay, it's probably minuscule but it also made it a neater install than routing it around the engine bay to the lhs.

            Cheers,

            Chris.

The bracket will attach to one or two of the bolts on the inner guard.

UHF mount. The main unit is located under the drivers seat. If I can find a way of mounting an external speaker and some gauges in a pod style arrangement it might be the next interior modification.
nice setup mate, with regards to the uhf setup we put our main unit in behind the screen in the top of the dash no need for external speaker and took mb 10 mins to fit

You wouldn't have any photos of the install that I could take a peak at. It won't be to difficult to relocate mine to the same location. Thanks for the ideas

Righto. Got photos of the tracklander install with the foxwing that I'll be uploading in a few days. Got the ups battery installed in the rear using an Anderson plug connection for it, all up it gives me 235a/h which I'm pretty impressed with. There also might be another ups battery on the way so that should take it out to over 400A/h if needed. Still sorting out the final bits for the suspension, which I might have to put off until after Christmas then there's the tyres to sort out. Headin to Broome for Christmas then to Adelaide for a mates wedding at the end of January so time is a little short to get everything finished, also weather is starting to get too warm to get under the car and do stuff, however I'll keep you all posted.

                            Hi mate,
Any chance you could explain this process? i want to do the same thing for mine when i get a lift and wheels, so insurance will still cover me. I've filled out the modification application form and sent that off. I only put a 2 inch lift with 285 wheels on mine. I'm just waiting to hear back now. Did they give you an approval in principle, or do you have to get an Engineering signatory? i hear this can be quite expensive if you have to go down this path...
By the way if clearance is your issue then you could take the rails off and fit the blanks that toyota supply, i've just done this to mine, in my build up, easy way to gain a couple of inches!
                            Thanks man
