Stockton beach fun
Samo and I spent a few hours this afternoon, after a late start; practicing some stuff on the beach in the Prado's.
As I possess the ability to get bogged every five minutes I spend driving on Stockton beach, we got the manual out and worked out the electronic doohickery stuff in the manual 150 GXL. Also Samo is trading in his 2003 GX Prado very soon for a new Mazda BT50 and has a 17g list of work for ARB to do to it, when it arrives . Now we have sorted my 150 on the sand, we will have another test arvo in his new rig in a month or so, when its finished.
After some buggering about I found this is the go in my turbo diesel manual.
1. VSC and Trac control turned OFF.
2. High range selected with the centre diff lock ON in the loose sand.
3. In some really loose, wet sand I used Low range with all the other crap switched off and it powered through.
We also had some fun sinking the cars in the sand and trying different methods to get them out. The Maxtrax went well, but we found the limits of the cars. Once you hit the fuel tanks, it's all over and snatch time.. As I found out.
Here are a few videos we took with my phone :
1. Sinking the truck - http://youtu.be/anE8vAGLsk0
2. Easy reverse out with Maxtrax - http://youtu.be/ZsUnTkCcM6Y
3. Samo using all four Maxtrax - http://youtu.be/h-UaODGarA0
4. Samo driving out really easy on all four Maxtrax - http://youtu.be/-dfrKRLOp_g

Good info Matt. The 150 is different to the 120 in that regard. I never played with the traction off button on sand and never had a problem, just locked the centre diff but my limited testing showed the 150 needs both off to produce its best. It's fun getting bogged on purpose and then playing to get out. A few of us were doing that a year or two back and the advice you get from people driving past is quite precious! They don't actually believe the "We got bogged on purpose bit".
Something like the looks I get when I wear one of my Kanji (Japanese) t shirts. It says "Watashi wa doji desu" which means "I am an idiot" in bold white on a black shirt. Plenty of Japanese and Japanese speakers struggle with laughing and then telling me what it says in case I didn't know. Mostly they look away but keep glancing back just to make sure it really does say what they though it did.My 150 build - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27423-A-Random-approach-to-a-Bluestorm-150-GXL-D4D-automatic
