My 2004 GXL Diesel

So i was then on the hunt for some drawers for the rear.
Now I will be fu#^ed if I am going to pay over $2300 for a set of drawers from any of the big name brands.
And the quality of the cheaper ones are still not worth it either.
So off to fleabay and gumtree I go.
Most are going for around 1k to 1.5k second hand for the Outback or Black Widow quality.
So i find a guy selling some Outback roller drawers with fridge slide from a 04 Pajero for $700 on gumtree.
I use his measurements to see if they might fit the Prado and what do ya know, they should go in fine.
So I offer him $600 and the deal is done. SWEEEEET.
Get them home and fit them up. They required very little modification and even look like they were made for the Prado. Awesome.

Now I have a friend who comes across a lot of slightly used winches.
So he gives me a Super Winch X9 with wire rope. I will throw the rope and get a Dynema rope for it soon.
I clean it up and respray it black.

The control fpr it is not the best so I purchase a new control and plug for it for $45.

Yep very happy, I have done the DIY thing and though it worked well it was not up to this standard.
The guy selling them had just bought his Pajero and it came with the drawers in it, which he didn't want, so we both win.
I have made a fridge enclosure for the slide and a shelf for a table ( I 'll put a pic up soon).
In planning for a Simpson trip this July, can't wait.

So it's time to install the Superwinch X9.

The bullbar has to come off and that is quite easy.

Test fit the winch and all good.

I put the control box in the engine bay as it was to big to fit on the bar between the lights.

All done, but getting the bar back in just the right spot was a pain in the ass.

The Prado is Looking good. Plus I think you trip photos are superb.

When in July are you planning on crossing the Simpson ?

G'day Palmer, we will be leaving Sydney on the 12th and be at Birdsville on the 18th. Going east to west.
Might see you depending on how long you take to cross. We will be visiting Sturt NP(NSW) and Coongie NP(SA) on the way up.

Ok so its been a while since I updated this thread.

I haven't done any major mods but I have been on some trips.
We did a Simpson crossing last July and and it was awesome. The Prado performed faultlessly. I had no problems at all except a flat 2nd battery in Tibboburra. So we bought a new one there and all was good.
Headed through Cameron Corner and on to Innaminka. Then up to Coongee Lakes.


Then headed up to Birdsville.




Then out into the desert.
