Just recently had a safari snorkel fitted. In preparation for this, I decided to modify the airbox and intake duct, shamelessly stealing from MickL's build-up.
The idea of this was to remove any airflow restrictions from the intake. I don't really believe this has had any effect on performance, but I've been throwing around the idea of fitting an upgraded top mount intercooler with fan and upgrading the exhaust, so my thinking is that all combined there might be some benefit overall. First removed the airbox from the vehicle and cut away the pre-spinner. Then also decided to cut away some more internals to open up the inlet as much as possible:
