  • Tdog86 - Kakadu 150 Build

    Hi Guys,

I have owned my 09 Kakadu now for just over 2 months now and I am loving it!

I have come from owning a rough and tumble GU Patrol into the luxury of the Kakadu.

I bought it bone stock from a dealer in Brisebane with 95,xxxkms on the clock.

The one thing I learnt from the Patrol is dont waste any time getting it set up, because before you know it your selling it and you haven't had a chance to enjoy it.

    Here are my plans:
    Bullbar
    Winch
    Spot Lights
    Light Bar
    Dual Battery and Battery Charger
    Under Vehicle Protection
    Recovery Point
    Rock Sliders and Brush Rails
    Roof Rack
    Side and Rear Awnings
    2" Lift Kit
    UHF
    Rear Drawers
Rear Tyre Carrier with Tyre/Jerry Can Holders

    And much more......

    Snorkel and Dual Battery Install

First job was installing the Safari Snorkel and the Dual Battery System.

After a lot of debate on battery, I went with an Excide Leasure Cycle 86AH AGM paired with a Redarc 25amp BCDC Charger.

    Snorkel:

            Rock Sliders & Brush Rails

So I opted for Raslarr Rock Sliders and Brush Rails.

For anyone based in Victoria, best place to get them done!! Custom made on the day fit your car and specifications. They are airbag compatible and they are very strong!

I had them made wider than the door skins for extra protection, plus flattened out so they function like a side step. I also added Brush Rails for extra protection and added black checker plate to the top of the step.

They only thing left to do, is I want to replace the lights that were attached to the side steps with LED strips with the original wiring so they activate on approach and opening the doors.

              Roof Rack Install

I opted to go for the Rhino Rack, to assist with reduced weight on the roof plus I am in and out of car parks for work, so having a low profile is important.

The ARB awnings are on universal bolt in brackets and lock into the channels, which makes them very easy to remove and install.

I will eventually be adding spot lights, which I had on my Patrol, to the side and rear.

Hi there Tdog86 and welcome to the Kaka Club! I also have an 09. May I ask which variant of the Kaka you have? Diesel or Petrol, Auto or manual? It seems to be an issue for the 3 letter brands, I can't get any off the shelf steps for my v6 Auto. I have been meaning to get out to Raslarr for a quote on some side steps but never manage to get out there. What sort of $$ are we looking at?

                  Hi fido666,

Thank you, it's a diesel and auto.

Raslarr are great cause they custom make everything. My steps and rails were $1200 fitted. Which is very reasonable.

Thanks. How much of that was the steps on their own? Do the steps have provision for the under-step lighting?

Not sure, send them an email. No they don't, I'm just going to get some strip LED and run it in the and spot.
