  • Oscar & Dee's Silver '05 VX Prado ... Turbo Diesel

    Hi all.

Just thought I'd put up a quick thread about our Prado.

We bought it about 18 months ago. It was a bog stock '05 Pre D4D Turbo Diesel Automatic with a Sovereign bar, IPF's and that's about it.

Over the past few months I have done the following:

    Specs:

    - Kenwood DVD/NAV upfront
    - Reversing Camera
    - Kenwood DVD 10in flip down screen for the kiddies in the rear
    - GME UHF
    - UHF Ariel + AM Radio Ariel so I can listen to the footy on Sunday's clearer
    - Sangrabbers
    - Beaudesert 3" exhaust turbo back & 3" chrome dumper tip off my old Rx2 exhaust
    - Safari Dtronic
    - Twin VZ HSV Clubsport Horns to replace the pathetic Toyota ones
    - HID Headlights, Foglights and LED Parkers
    - Rear Reversing Foglights
    - Relocated Trailer Plug in the compartment behind the LH taillamp
    - ebay Turbo Timer Plug & Play
    - Tinted Windows
    - Lambswool Seat Covers
    - Rear Spoiler
    - 2in Ironman Lift Kit
    - DBA 4000 series Cross Drilled & Slotted Rotors + Bendix Pads all around
    - Maxxis BIGHORN 265/70/17 tyres

    Pic's:

    The day we got it...

Old vs. New - Don't ever buy an XTRAIL - They are a piece of shit!

Reversing Camera... Tried to mount it as discreet as possible...

Sand Grabbers - one of the best investments ever - especially in the back with 2 kids under 3yrs old

    GME TX3400...Does the job

    Before the Lift Kit...

Most of the stuff done by here - Tints, Lift Kit, HID's etc

    Go PARRA

Another Shot with the HID's & one of my other toys...

BIGHORNS + DBA Rotors + Lift Kit =

BIGHORNS on - Love the look of them - First Impressions : Noisy but bearable, great grip wet & dry.

    BIGHORNS again...

I will update the pic's as more happens. I'd like to say Thanks to all of you on Pradopoint who have shared all your ideas, and posted your experiences etc as it has helped me tremendously.

    Next on the list? :

    - Replace the Soverign Bullbar with a ARB Colour Coded Deluxe Winch Bar + Add a Winch
    - Air Lockers F & R.

    Regards
    Oscar

          Hello Oscar.
Recently fitted a Beauy exhaust to ours. Instant gratification (thats what it is all about ). PM me when you do the bent 8 conversion, I would be interested in trying the Dtronic chip in my Grande. Love your work by the way.
150 Vx D4D, Deluxe Arb bar, winch, Hayman Reece Towbar, UBP, P3 Tekonsha, 'n stuff.

Kenta - the thought made me drool - that why I keep knocking back people who want to buy the motor off me...I refuse to sell it - Though I am still wondering if it will do 4WD power slides

HAHAAH AJ. The sheer acceleration of a Rotary is hard to match, you should bring him past to Powercruise, I'll take him for a spin in my RX2 - lets see if he can wipe the smile off his face

I'll keep you guys posted - but it doesn't look like happening any time soon, so I'm going to make the most of having a semi-economical diesel.

The Beaudesert is a must on any diesel Prado I say Even though ours seems to have rattled itself loose in some places, might need to get under it and weld some brackets up - the tail pipe moves about 15-20mm to the left and right as the car runs...which isn't normal I believe. To be 100% honest - the DTronic didnt feel like it did anything to me. Its still connected and running - Im just too lazy to rip it all out and unplug it to see the difference.

Re: Oscar & Dee's Silver '05 VX Prado ... Turbo Diesel

 V8 idea has been ditched. For the sole reason that we can not have the car off the road for such a long period of time.

On a brighter note - the Prado's been booked in with our local ARB guys to have the following fitted:

              1) ARB Colour Coded Deluxe Winch Bar fitted
              2) Rated Recovery Points fitted
              3) Safari Snorkel fitted
              4) Warn XD9000 winch fitted

So hopefully should be fitted up by mid to late March.

Im still tossing up between getting the ARB bar colour coded or leaving it in the standard grey finish...any suggestions?

              Cheers

Wow, for some reason I skimmed over that bit and didn't take it in  (I blame that on it being a Monday morning). bummer about ditching the V8 idea. How long were you looking at for the conversion?

Re: Oscar & Dee's Silver '05 VX Prado ... Turbo Diesel

Honestly Kenta - I have no idea how long it would've taken. Since it hasn't been done before, I was estimating at least 6-8 weeks. But it could've taken a lot longer because of the electrical side of things & I didn't want to take the risk because its the only car we have that 2 baby seats will fit into.

All I know is it was going to cost me >$8K not including the engine & after much discussion with the Minister for Finance - we decided to scrap the idea & splurge at ARB with some of the money we had put aside & keep the old oiler going the way it is now...

Glenn - I'm super keen to get all the experience I can get. As for the Traction control vs. Diff Locks - I don't know. I'm going to hold off on the diff lock idea until I read up on it some more. They aren't bloody cheap either! ops:

                        Thanks
                        Oscar

                          Hi All.

We are in the process of getting the Prado somewhat back to standard. I think our 4WDing "fun" has come to an end.

This morning we just signed paperwork to take delivery of a VE SS Sportswagon.

Just to give you a heads up, the following will be available and placed the trader section of the forum & on ebay:

Ironman 2in lift kit (approx 12 months old)
Safari DTronic (approx 18 months old)
Set of 5 x Maxxis Bighorns (still have PLENTY OF TREAD approx 85%) (will be happy to do a swap + cash adjustment for standard tyres when the time comes)
                          Plug & Play Turbo Timer
Plus heaps of small bits and pieces.

I just want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their help and guidance over the years.

                          Cheers
