  • CARBON TAX: The truth, the lies and the humour

OK. This is the hot topic for Australian Members so, as a person that loves a laugh and sledge at the incumbent government here is the thread

    To get us started:

    Dear Juuulia
Will I have to pay a carbon tax on my farts? I know you said its the top 500 polluters, but my wife thinks I have been caught.

Can I claim a carbon credit for my plantation of non producing tomatoe and silly basil plants?

    I got 3:

    Dear Julia,
I want to backstab my colleague - will I be exempt from the carbon tax?

    AND

    Dear Julia,
If the Government is in the Top 500 polluters, will the Government have to pay the carbon tax and will it pay for it by charging the other 499 polluters more tax to pay for its own tax?

    AND

    Dear Julia,
Will you increase Ruddy's allowance so he can pay his carbon tax, given that you keep sending him overseas?

This. I don't believe a word Gillard says on the topic of Carbon Taxes. I love how its now a Carbon price not a Carbon Tax. That is some of the dodgiest PR work I've seen.

The worst part of the whole thing is the fact that if climate change is going to be so damaging then you go the whole hog, not this 1/4 hearted "look we have done something about climate change" policy.

Exempting vehicles was the clincher. If its gunna work then it needs to change behaviour and that will only be done if it hurts. We are getting the tax simply because Labor made a deal with the greens to ensure they could form govt.

We have a hung parliament here in tassie and its equally as dependant upon the minor parties to govern. And its equally a mess.

I have a bit to do with the climate change section at work (local govt) and the evidence, when explained by a scientist without the doom and gloom greenies or head in the sand far right around, is that on the balance of probability it is occurring and we either need to try and influence change (IMO wont work) or prepare for it.

I dont think it will destroy industry or workers lives. The costs will just get passed down amongst the populace. As the Qantas MD said "we will be passing every cent onto the customer". People need to fly, buy steel and aluminium, they will just pay more.

          cheers

Many moons ago I bought my ex wife a diamond ring.

I've always thought that diamonds are pure carbon......so does that mean there will be a "Diamond Tax" as well?

If so, who will pay this tax & will it be retrospective....omg will I be liable for the tax...I'm shuddering at the thought

Jeepers does our fearless leader have a diamond ring? Or may be getting one soon

Will she have to pay the Diamond Tax too or is she exempt
            Cheers,

People will just cop it and keep emitting CO2 at the same rate. Then the greens, like the Russian dude Torchering Rambo in Rabmo II, will simply turn the dial and crank up the carbon price.

Seriously I cant believe the whole country isn't taking up arms by now, the outright LIE that this is going to reduce emmisions is ludicrous, who do you know that wastes power ??? everyone i know thinks it costs too much now, and how the blue blazes taxing it will make any differance is beyond me, if your serious about reducing emmisions there are at present three known ways , wind, solar, nuclear, tell me where tax fits into that because I just dont get it, it took years for labour to get back into power but believe me theyv'e completly blew it this time people will never go back there again, and all for what ???

                    well said davy ,

when we sold our coal fired power stations to the japs , the condition was that they had to find a more cleaner way of burning coal
                    that was more sustainable ,
we are still waiting for this as we tax payers fork over millions of dollars to them to phase out coal 30 years later ??????

Diamonds will earn you carbon credits as they are the most effective form of carbon capture

Not according to the greens - Carbon capture is not a viable option.
