Asking because I'm curious but will probably be relevant for the OP - If your vehicle is legal in your home state but not in some others and you do a grand tour of Australia can you be picked up (and fined) in states where you aren't legal or are you OK because you are legal in the state your vehicle is registered in?

The AAA website has some good and detailed info that you may be interested in about who to contact in each State and Territory for registration purposes.
Typical of our local governments nothing is standardised. For example some States will require you to get a temporary registration in their State even if you have already got one from another State, whereas other States are happy if you have one issued from another State.
All States seem to require third party insurance cover (not sure if that has to be for each State individually or if one would you all around Aus).

I started on the underbody treatment today and managed to get pretty far. I am applying Sikaguard cavity wax in the chassis, and underbody protection on all the exposed bits. Here in the UK cars take a bit of a hammering from the road salt that gets put down each winter (on icy roads). Considering the age of my truck it doesn't look too bad underneath, but I will be doing some beach driving and river crossings in Australia, so thought it would be worth doing. And it can't hurt with the AQIS inspection either...
The prep consisted of the steam clean that I had done, and then today I tackled all the rust with a drill and wire brush attachment, and a screwdriver for the tougher/thicker bits. I ran out of daylight to finish the job, but here are a couple of before & after pics of the front wheel arches.

Yes, be sure to let me know when you're in NSW, I'll try to show you some great tracks, or at least provide the advice. I've explored a heck of a lotSee some of my track log here: http://www.4x4earth.com.au/option,co...ulog/tr,17302/
Looking at your map/plan, there's a couple places in NSW I could reccommend, but the most important spot you have missing is Talbotville in the VIC high country. The very steep and very long tracks around Talbotville are an absolute must for any experienced 4wder, but particular routes and considerations must be taken if you have a trailer. For examples, have a peak at Billy Goats Bluff track and Blue Rag Range track.glen_ep - engineered, 4" lift, 33" 255/85R16, lockers, 4.88 ratios www.pradopoint.com.au/showthread.php?17237 www.youtube.com/user/glenep www.fb.com/groups/ToyotaPrado90
