  • Calling all PC Guru's

Before I go stark staring mental does anyone know how I can convert MTS files to a format that will let me burn movies I've taken on camcord to a DVD ? basically I bought a JVC camcord (everio GZ-205) to take to the states ,I can view , copy , paste etc all the pics but it wont even open the movies as their in MTS files, I've downloaded VCL and other programmes that will let me play the movies but I still cant burn them to disc and even when I can the format is no good to play back on a DVD also I dont want to pay for it as it might not even work, any idea's ?
    cheers,

You need a media player like a WDTV to play those files. You can't use a DVD player to play them without authoring it into DVD format. And if you want to go down the path of converting to DVD, it will take a long time and you will lose quality. It won't be full HD anymore.

              Try a program called -
              Any video converter
              or
              Handbrake

Both are free to use, I think handbrake is the easiest to use but it will take a while to convert.

Are there any settings on the video camera to record as a different file type????

                Google is your friend:

The MTS file type is primarily associated with 'AVCHD'. AVCHD is a high-definition digital video format that supports 1080i and 720p with a reasonably small file size. AVCHD files are based on the MPEG4 CODEC. AVCHD video files can be burned to Blu-ray discs and played in compatible devices, such as Blu-ray disc players and the Sony PlayStation3. Various video programs can edit or convert this file format which is generally used by Sony and some Panasonic video cameras.

                Also refer to this link-
                http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVCHD

Has good info on playback etc at the bottom

Also try www.whirlpool.net.au always got for info.

P.S I build my own computers
