That would be right , they can't put a decent road from one side of the biggest city in the country to the other side to help get the million commuters to work and back , but they can help out a coupla the bruddas to get a smoother ride . Ever notice while you we're on the cape the only places that had phone reception or smooth rds were where the indigenous communities were and everyone else got jack .

Spending $250 million on roads on the Cape will have nothing to do with supplying services for the locals, but everything to do with providing access to bauxite, huge quantities of gravel and sand, and perhaps also an all weather road for the Cape York "Space Base". Some people might recall the "space base" investigations that took palce a few decades ago. Apparently the Cape is very favourable to space vehicle launching due to its proximity to the equator. The proposal fell through as international investors could not be found, however a huge amount of exploration took place, and significant quantities of sand and gravel was identified which would be needed in huge quantities for roads and infrastructure and launch pad facilities etc...so if its not bauxite mining, it may well be sand and gravel mining etc, and thats what will generate the income to justify spending millions on a road...it won't be spent just to improve tourism or just to give locals better roads, it will all be about propoerty and resource development...Cape York may one day rival Cape Canaveral...and it will be goodby Cape York to us 4wders.

My bet is 250kms.

I have seen first hand how roads are built in queensland...
You pay alot and get very little value for money.

There will still be plenty of tracks for us to get dirty on!

Throw a few bridges into the mix and you'd be lucky to get 50kms. It cost about 480million to get 10kms of rail line down with 2 small platforms, and 800m for the 15 odd km section before that in brissy.
I'd reckon a bare minimum of at least 50m of that 250 would go just in design before they even got a worker on the ground.

I'd say the roads up there are fairly safe for quite a while. But that's JMO

the OTT will still be there for us to have fun on, the money will be spent on the bypass road which any 2 wheel drive vehicle can drive on.

It's probably more likely that someone in the labor party knows someone that needs a 250 million dollar contract signed off on be fore they get ousted real soon . And yeah call me a cynic but that much cash will get about 2.5 Kim's
