Yes I know, I've got sour grapes and I admit it but I've held a clean license for nearly 40 years and the first and only time I do a uie at the lights the only car there is an unmarked cop car and he done me, dont mind the fine (my fault) but does it really deserve 2 demerit points ? I mean it's not exactly crime of the century is it ? I think I know now why the hillbillies go off at the cops thier actually right while thier doing them for a trivial violation the real hoons doing burn up's ,speeding ,driving recklessly, etc etc couldn't give a toss because nothing happens to them except a fine they cant and dont pay,
well done the boys in blue you just made another fan ..............(NOT)
PS Sorry for the rant I just wanted to know how long do the points stay on for in WA ?

Mate - write to either the Police Commissioner or to whomever administers the fine/demerits highlighting your unblemished traffic record, the fact that you admit and will not contest the infringement and your willingness to pay the fine... I'm sure they will consider and offer some discretion.

Just wondering at what point should the police turn a blind eye to offences that happen right in front of them? Where do you draw the line on what they should and shouldn't act upon? Demerit points loss are attached to offences that are deemed safety related.

As stated by the above poster, write a letter to the infringement processing unit admitting fault but asking for leniency given your completely unblemished driving record for the past 40 years. Don't pay the fine until you receive a response.

There's an intersection on my way to work where I have seen close calls and nearly been involved in a couple my self because of people doing U-turn's where you are not supposed to AND this spot it's definitely not safe to do one...
... so, the U-turn may not be the biggest crime on our roads but when your wife/partner/kid/friend in the passenger seat gets T-boned by an on-coming car?? Well... I'd rather just turn where I should, where it's safe.

Write in about it, you will get off it. Id be very surprised if you didn't with your driving record. DONT pay the fine as mentioned above till you get a reply, because if you pay it, its a lot more mucking around for them to refund you so they will possibly deny your letter..... Cheers Steve

In Vic I'm allowed to do u turns, so either we are all Fu$&ing idiots and Dangerous or perhaps it's not that dangerous.

I can't see why it would be an issue, I've never had a problem making a uie.
Now if someone doesn't give way, well of corse thats dangerous, but so is driving through a red light.
Can I say at the point, if you run red lights you are a FU$&ing as$hole, sorry but that's super dangerous.

So I think it's stinks you get annoyed for making an illegal turn, if it was safe to do so.
Yes plenty of idiots doing much more dangerous things.........
However yes it is illegal & if you knew that, then you just have to cop it?
I would have explained to the officer, how useless he was & why. You have to do your duty, but he may then do his and tell you why it was so dangerous, either way one or 2 of us learns a lesson. Or he might just give you something else as well for being smart, yes the minority (i hope)giving the majority a bad name (police that is).
He probably got picked on at school, poor bugger.

Don't worry about points, it's only 2pt in 40 years, your ok for 240yrs on that average.

LOL Yes maybe they did I got that impression by the way he sniggered at me as if to say "well you aint so clean now" as for "getting away with it for 40 years" believe it or not that WAS the only time I done it and it was because I was in a hurry , again my own stupid fault, not religious but the phrase let he who is without sin.....springs to mind.

Not if you have a truck license (semi/prime mover) as they are Australia wide, any points you cop in any state goes on your license. Use to be the way, truck drivers would have a license for every state and say if you got pulled up in NSW you would show say your WA license and just pay the fine, no loss of points and off you go.......those days are long gone.......Cheers Steve
