We keep hearing how high wages and all sorts of conditions and costs, make it impossible for us to compete with emerging Asian markets. Whilst there is certainly some truth to this, the "high cost of doing business" never stopped company execs from giving themselves massive pay rises and obscene bonuses, year on year, whilst telling the workers they had to take a pay cut.
Aunty Gina is one such disgusting example. A billionaire several times over, she stated publicly that Australian miners should accept being paid two dollars per hour to be competitive with mines in Africa.
Our current politicians tell us we all need to make sacrifices, cut costs and "nothing is off the table". Well, nothing except for pollies pay, perks and super. Nurses and fire fighters can't have a 2% pay rise, yet ex-prime ministers get $500k per year, every year from the tax payer. They get to keep that and what ever they make on top "consulting" and "public speaking, whilst a pensioner on $300 per week loses every dollar they might make to try and improve their impoverished lot in life.
