South East South Australia? Towards Coonawarra and Mount Gambier?
Yes I think you seem to know where....but I think I will have to be a bit closer to get the prize!

Don't recognise the building. But I do recognise the imposing Mount Stone construction. Absolutely fabulous buildings all through that area

Wrong area, The previous guess of South East South Australia was right. That guess was almost on the money - but no cigar. If no one gets it by tomorrow, I'll reveal all (blow it - that will mean I have to actually look up the name myself). No point giving more hints - it's so close.

Would that mean that I win - and get another go.....?

Sorry Violet but I don't know it. Was in the area last week but I didn't see it and we went through Naracortte, Coonawarra, Penola, Millicent, Mount Gambier, Beachport and Robe. Don't recall anything like your piccy there.

You can always give a small clue to help guessing since you seem so disappointed that you would need to look the name of the place up.

Just out of Penola (say 5kms perhaps - I've got a bad memory).

The two-story mansion “Yallum Park” was completed for John Riddoch in 1880 and many of the early buildings in the district were opened or had their foundation stones laid by the man of vision. He was a local Member of Parliament for many years and the Riddoch Highway is so named to acknowledge his contributions.

Yallum Park was purchased by the Clifford family in 1910. The building still has original wallpapers and furniture and is open to the public by appointment at the Tourist Information Centre. John Riddoch's other claims to fame in our area is the Coonawarra Fruit Colony. He recognized the abundance of under ground water, Mediterranean type climate and Terra Rossa soil all combined to provide excellent fruit growing conditions.

We were shown through by a very old, but for his age, very spritely, MR CLIFFORD – probably in his 90’s. You can only see the front few rooms but these had original wall coverings and heaps of old (but fantastic condition) furniture. The old guy was great – showed us the room he was born in and a photo when he was only a few months old. Still had the original cot he was photographed in. I don’t usually go into the Australian heritage things very much – but I thought this was fascinating – especially talking to the owner. I hope he is still alive.

So I'm still going to claim the next go. Surely this will be easy (for anyone that has been there)

You've got to be kidding..... I was going to use this ages ago but I thought it was too easy.

A spot that (at least about 5 years ago) is on the tourist maps of the area, tourist signes at the site explaining what it is. Gravel road to get to the place - and no one recognises it

All right a hint. It's in Western Australia - several hours away from Perth. The next hint maybe the direction from Perth

Never seen it before Violet. Just looking at it I can't even begin to think what it could be?? With that flat horizon it looks wheatbelt, in wintertime. Some type of lookout tower... geez I dunno.

I'm thinking a vent shaft for a mine.

                    NFI as to the location.

Now that's a bit better - a couple of guesses - and actually quite close...

Sort of wheat belt - but extreme north western end (Yes it's north of Perth).

A vent (of a type) that is sort of associated with a mine (close by) but not the actual mine. I'm not sure of age - probably 100 years.

Hrmm, still no idea Violet. Extreme North West wheatbelt would put it around the Kalbarri Turnoff. Say Binnu or something like that. Only mines I know of in that area are at Northampton though. Pffft.... so much for being too easy

Oh - so very close. Looks like I'll have to wait 'till I get home to look at a map for the exact name of the place. If anyone finds out a bit closer before I get home - I'll give it to them. Otherwise I'll have to submit another photo (it will be dead easy).

I'm shocked   that no one knows exactly - since it is so accessable. I went there with a 2WD.

Thats why no one knows where it is, this is a 4WD forum

Looks like somewhere around the Greenough region to me, but I have no idea really.
